Walter Cronkite: And that's the way it was. Your trying to scare people with the law who know nothing of the "power" of the law. Your trying to take moeny from people who have no money. Your trying to convince a court room that downloading a 3meg file is the same as beating up a little old lady and taking here purse. Good to see that people just don't buy it.

About the ONLY thing the riaa could do to win this war is go back in time (like the BORG) and pass the DMCA in the late 1970s... thus short-circuiting the nascent Microsoft Corporation. Then we would not have the multi-trillion dollar tech industry that we do today... and no explosive internet demand which is a glove & hand fit for music piracy. Thank god the music industry doesn't have a time machine... hahahaha!

As a follow up; if I was going to pay for a pirated movie, the minimum I would want would be an R5 with line audio; not a cam. Tom

@ MrFredPFL I'm sorry I feel quite embarrassed for going off on you like that . Just defending a software that hasn't had the best luck in the past +3 years, like in the case of losing its website, some 3rd party trademarking the name, losing another site with a rogue/ sellout admin, and a inconsistent/ disorganized developer base. Mind you the developer base as of today exists of one active developer. As far as software goes, it is...

I gave up on Shareaza long ago, but i'm always willing to try something new in the name of testing. I just tryed to install the Latest version of Shareaza 2.5... When I did I got the following error. "A malware has been detected on your system at C:\Windows\system32\pxwma.dll, please remove it with a virus/malware scanner before installing Shareaza. Do you want to exit now?" buttons (ok) (...

the only connection to opennap and napster involved here are the names. i had the occassion to look at opennap's sourceforge page a month or so ago, and was surprised to see them talking about restarting the project. little did i suspect this was what they meant.

Its great that the labels are finally willing to admit that they took entirely the wrong approach to the use of the internet and P2P. They thought they could still control everything like it was just a music TV channel but you cant control the flow of the internet, you go along with it and adapt your business strategy to the current climate.

Hmm, think this line has been tried before, in the UK. They tried to link video piracy (and years ago, they tried to link getting cheap cigs the same way) to gun-running, drug dealers, and god knows what else. I can say with absolute certainty that the guy I get my vids from aint in the Mafia And I think most other folks are the same.

The music industry didn't ignore p2p, they tried to drive a stake right through the heart of it by visciously suing napster, and when that was such a hollow victory they quickly changed tactics and went after individual person(s) involved in p2p file sharing, albeit with very limited success. Apparently putting a few file sharers on a hook as "pirates" didn't obtain the kind of fear they had ...
