quote: Originally posted by Always Italy: http://www.holidaycheck.de/vol...b-id_1155796288.html This is the one we just went to!! Is it not the true Da Alberto? Maybe that last bridge was from Castello to Canareggio. Yes it is the correct one and yes I believe it is near the "border". But if I am right there is no other one, the "other one" aka wrong one is just a very old address or an error. RR

Could "Da Alberto" be a very common name for an eatery in Italy? Likewise there must be a million "Chen's Dumplings" in China. I remember growing up in San Francisco, there was Joe's, Old Joe's, Broadway Joe's, The Original Joe's, New Joe's, etc. Yes I can imagine some tourists must have been confused. But for all those Joes who decided to stick with the name, they must know what they're...

Hi Jan, Just replying to part of what you ask: if you're going to central Milan rather than connecting to a Trenitalia train, it's better to take the train from Malpensa to Cadorna station, rather than the bus to Centrale.

When you are in Montepulciano next, go visit Cantina Gattavecchi. Daniella and her family have rebuilt the gorgeous cellars and the wines are all wonderful. You can taste outside on the hill overlooking San Biagio. If you make it on to Montefollonico, we have several fabulous winemakers here, too.

Malpensa Airport Hotel

Any new info on this issue? I am starting to think about our final night near Malpensa, which has actually turned into 2 nights because Delta changed our flights (long story). My idea is that we would stay near the airport and drive my sister and her husband to the airport on the first morning, turn in the car and take the bus into Milan for the day. Return to airport and get some kind of shuttle back to hotel. Leave early the next morning for...

It is literally minutes from the terminal, has a shuttle if you need it, and has a pool. We stayed here a number of years ago (2001) and enjoyed it. I think it is probably even nicer now and was a nice last night treat. This is what I wrote about it on my website: Our last night was at the Villa Malpensa...

Not sure where Carpediem is (in relation to Termini in roma) but I'd strongly suggest the train -- over driving -- for a day trip to Florence.

Ah, I've been going through the same thing--same neighborhood, same price range! We finally ended up going with Balestrari , just around the corner from Campo de Fiori. It looks lovely, and I was able to find several positive reviews of it online. Also on my shortlist: Farnesi , Orbitelli , and Banchi Vecchi . Good luck!

Here is the correct information both location and map.I can't get the balloon to go but the street is directly below the balloon. True location Da Alberto I know that on many google maps there is a wrong info option, but it appears this info was provided by an outside source. I feel like if I am correct I should notify them Immediately. Is there another Da Alberto? If so they are ...

Eataly New York is scheduled for spring 2010 in the Flatiron District, lower Fifth Avenue. It is being done in conjunction with Batali and the Bastianichs. Supposedly, 42,000 square feet!

Sabina is just wonderful. Try Sabina Online for lots of info. La Torretta B&B is a beautiful B&B in Casperia, and is also quite helpful. And, Gail wrote about the olive harvest (some of the best oil in Italy, I think) here.

So we can help you better, where have you been in Italy besides Rome? What kind of art or architecture, what periods of history do you like best? I'd also love to hear what made your Rome trip so fabulous! Lots of wonderful memories for you! Ciao, Margaret

It's time for another Italy Photohunt! Here are the guidelines: You select one of your own photos to post that in some way utilizes the topic. Use the topic as a concrete prompt, or find a novel approach. Each person, just one post/photo per thread topic, (or two if you must)please. Photos should be resized to be no wider than 600 pixels. Too-large photos slow down the loading of the thread, and...

Yes, that one surely would make you keep bits and pieces of you inside. The first phrase I learned (1977) was "Dove il gabinetto?" Now, we don't use that word, it seems. So, I was charmed last year, to spot the sign in the background. It was only later that I saw I was getting the look that could kill from the polfer!

I would leave Ct out. Rome, Venice and Florence is plenty. No need to rent a car if you stick to this itinerary. Fly in to Venice, train to Florence, train to Rome. Open Jaw, into one city out another is not necessarily more expensive. RR

2 weeks ago, I ate at Cinghiale del Bianco on the Oltrano side of the Arno twice. My friend and I shared the frito misto verdura, a very large antipasto of fried vegetables, followed by a pasta with tomatoes and basil. While not a vegetarian restaurant, there are choices and the house wine was wonderful. The food is rustic Tuscan taken to the next level. Nancy

It depends on your credit card and your bank. If you have a Capital One card (the only one I'm sure doesn't impose a currency conversion fee), that is the way I would choose. There may be other cards that don't have that conversion fee, but most of the major cards do charge 2% to 3%. The only others I have heard of that may not charge are smaller ones through credit unions and the like. ...
