Do you have a suggestion on the best site to make early train reservations, and do you have an idea how early you can make reservations?

We spent a week last year in Colmar and stayed here . This other aparment has the same owner. I would stay here again. It is in the center of Colmar in the pedestrian zone, covenient to everything. We didn't have a car but used the train system to go to Basel, Switzerland; Freiburg & Trier, Germany; Luxumberg City and Strassburg plus a couple of towns along the rail line.

We had a good experience at the Hotel Cardinal de Rohan, just down the street from the Cathedral. Here's my Slow Travel review . Our room on the front even had a view of part of the Cathedral. You can go up to the roof of the Cathedrale to look out over the city (I did-- my husband and daughter didn't). We all enjoyed the boat tour of the city. Kathy

We saw that northern France, across the channel from England, totally snow. Paris has snow on the ground, and ice, anywhere you might think it would be. 25F is chilly to be walking around in. But better here that home! Snow and continued snow predicted for tomorrow (Sunday). Now that we've finally gotten connected to the Internet and Slow Travel, and almost recovered from way too much lost sleep . . . maybe we can post real substance. Or...

Linda, we have not stayed in Bourges, but we have visited twice, most recently last May. I hope you have a little time to look around the town, which we really enjoyed. Here is a photo of the wonderful cathedral, with a flowering tree -- taken in early May. If you are there in late May, the gardens behind the cathedral may be in bloom. They hadn't really started to bloom in the early part of the month. Do try to get inside the cathedral;...

Experience with Ryan Air
Published (2009-12-13 14:49:00)
quote: The mystery is why so many people are willing to put up with an airline that, in the words of The Economist, “has become a byword for appalling customer service, misleading advertising claims and jeering rudeness towards anyone or anything that gets in its way.” No mystery there - it's dirt cheap... We fly both Ryanair and Easyjet on a regular basis. True the service level is next to none. True there are additional charges for...

Cyndy, hope your stay in Paris is going great. I'm sorry we haven't been quick in getting some ideas to you on your question. I did read this article about a program developing in Paris for electric cars, like the Velib bikes, but it isn't rolled out yet. I was looking for a car for a day or two in Aix-en-Provence a few years ago... I don't know if any of this thread will give you any ...

Have you looked up Kevin's place, Le Mas Perréal ? I have not stayed there and I did visit the place once. The interior is beautiful and also very comfortable, not guindé . The village St Saturnin Les Apt is not only charming but has a life of its own outside the tourist season. It slows down of course but is not one of those "boutique villages" that become dead during off season.

A couple of questions regarding your phone needs: - Do you have an unlocked tri/quad band phone? - Do you plan to make calls to the US? - Do you need the number in advance of your travels? - Do you need data access/internet access? - Are you going to be visiting other countries during the 4 months? If you have a phone and plan to use it while in Paris mainly to make calls within France or ...

You got it mostly right, except it's worse. "Les employés chargés de la maintenance et de l' alimentation des distributeurs automatiques de billets (DAB) sont appelés à faire grève dès vendredi 18 décembre' "Dès" means "starting from".

Yes visit them on different days. Versailles really takes a whole day: half a day for the interior, half a day for the gardens. You don't need a car to visit Versailles. If you are staying in Paris, just take the train out - 30 minutes. You don't want to deal with the nightmare of driving out of Paris, then the nightmare of finding parking in Versailles. On the other hand, Giverny is best ...

I seem to have no trouble just now accessing this webpage . I even tried to choose the option of b&b's in the Strasbourg region and got a listing in a second. But goes without saying I did not see a transaction through.

There have been several discussions on this board about the Dordogne. Here is a good one from a few years ago. Someone on it recommended drawing a semi-circle to the west from Sarlat, but didn't say how far. We're planning to go to the Dordogne for the first time next spring. I've just requested a booking for one week at La Prairie in France , at their Byre property. I hope it is as ...

You can see the individual museum sites linked from www.parismuseumpass.com . For Orangerie, Louvre, Orsay I see youth but not senior discounts, except that Orsay has free admission for "Persons receiving the basic old age pension," requiring showing an annual certificate, so I take it meaning those receiving the pension in France.

Hi Linda, You realize, I take it, that you are in for a really long drive. Let's say two days of 5 hours each, assuming you take the autoroutes whenever possible. I personally wouldn't do it, unless you took an extra day and decided to drive the more scenic back roads. If you do go for it, a stay somewhere in the Loire Valley might make sense. Alternatively, you could easily (and ...

Hello WS0013 and Welcome to Slow Travel, The Grand Hotel Du Cap Ferrat is a beautiful hotel. It is locate near the lighthouse at the end of the Cape. None of the bus lines go to the hotel. I created the following Google map to show you where the closest bus stop is located. The Blue marker is the Tourism Office in St Jean Cap Ferrat which is the closest bus 81 stop. The Green marker is the hotel...
