I would second the vote for the Monogram March. However, a Monogram Cobra Daytona would be sweet, too. Thanks, and good luck. Mc

This is the first production chassis. I numbered it 002 because the test mule is still on my workbench waiting for a body.

I think you're right. I may just cut a hole in the bonnet for a perspex scoop over 9 pairs of Webers. Watcha think?

Maserati Birdcage Help

Hi And, Al, I really disliked the shape. I have, actually, a small box of birdcage bodies purchased over the years that were failures. Curiously, not scale, and even a little wide, I just got ANOTHER! It is a resin body for HO that is probably close to 1/40th. But cute. Fate

That car is evidence of a creative mind and some good body skills. I can see it is a narrowed Ferrari Berlinetta (Strombecker's terminology) with Maserati 250F front. It doesn't fit any recognizable prototype and seems closer to a 1940's Spindizzy, or perhaps a streamlined lakes racer. The Spindizzies used "big car" (early sprint or Indy car) bodies with conventional open cockpits, or enclosed like this one,...

My camera is my cell phone as I only have 35mm Film cameras. I do have macro lenses for closeups of things but I'd have to shoot the photos and then go to Walgreens to process them to CD's to get any digital images to the computer. I could try to shoot through a magnifying glass to see if I could improve any shots of the cars and use soem better lighting if need be. I think I have Revell parts I could measure the motor if needed too...

Maserati Birdcage Help

The Birdcage was one of my early favorites...and I still grieve for the one i had that I lost while in the Army...(can you believe this: My mother, my own mother , gave my "toys," all of them, away while I was in the service. I was in Vietnam, and she gave away my comic books, my baseball cards, my models and my slot cars...to some kid next door. That kid is driving around today probably in a Ferrari he bought with my stuff!)...

I have done up some of the Russkit "SuperLeggera" bodies. The birdcage was narrow, not much room to work. The detail on the vacuformed bodies is not so good but being made of styrene you can just about add or do anything to them. I got interested for a while in making my own bodies and purchased a few of the Mattel vacuforms and then lost my mind and bought a large commercial vacuform about 25 years ago. I still have it but...

Does anyone know if the old Mattel Vac form machine's are still available? (I've not yet checked Ebay). Also, I know nothing about the Mattel product - can it create a variety of shapes & sizes?, if so how, etc. Thanks

I always thought if you scaled down the design of an RC pan chassis on-road car you could get a very nicely done slot car chassis. Maybe getting rid of the motor pod and going with a completely rigid assembly in the process to further simplify things. I have a piece of 1/16" graphite sheet and a couple pieces of FRP sheet waiting for inspiration to do this type of thing. I did begin to play ...

Hi
I have done the Krause Birdcage, but I am not sure WE are looking at the same car. Anyway, the numbers of the one I modeled are black Rail Road Gothic from one of the rail terrain (foam trees) guys.

Hope Doug's O.K. I've talked to him once or twice and have a few of his cars. The resin is unique. Looks very resilient. But I must confess the bodies I have of his will require a little detail work beyond my schedule right now. And I'm still looking for grille screen to complete the C2R Cunningham. Anybody regularly race his prodiucts? What does he use to make them so resilient?

Some years ago, a 1/24 Resin Corvette GTP static model kit was offered to the public (by at least 2 companies).
IIRC, Betta offers a 1/32 Corvette GTP Body.
I was wondering if these would be helpful in creating your 1/32 version?
Interesting side note: Jay Leno has a street legal "replica" of the Corvette GTP in his collection.

I'd think that the Slot.it HRS chassis is perfect for this sort of conversion. IIRC it even comes with generic body mounts.

You need to be more clear here. The carved or sculpted original is called the "master".
A master can be from wood (usually bass) or plaster, or hardened clay. Sometimes it is another plastic model but modified with plastic and putty. I guess a master could be carved from soap if it could stand the heat. Or camel dung........whatever! The master is first. It must be smooth and ...
