Connect to mysqueezebox.com
Published (2009-11-22 08:35:00)
Still same message with no music sources switched on. The only way I have managed to get this working is by using iPeng on the iPhone to control the SBR and move the music source to MSB.com, i cant get the Napster stuff to work if I have my SBS as the music source. Is this correct? Either way from the squeezebox remote I cannot switch my music source to MSB.com or use Napster content. Thanks for your help so far, any other bright ideas?

DSL/Broadband
Published (2009-11-22 00:21:00)
I have DSL in use for my computer that plays internet radio just fine. It's on the slower end of DSL. I'm not sure this is considered "Broadband" as suggested by SB. I'm wondering if they recommend fast, faster, fastest for the automatic updating of software I've read about. Just how fast does your internet connection have to be for this little black box to work???? Thanks, Rog

Squeezebox Boom -Vs- Squeezebox...

To not be misunderstood boom too can function without a local server and decode most radio there is , but radio can do more. You are then conected to a web service called mysqueezebox.com this handles server duties when you do not have a lokal server. You do not need a local server, however from time to time it is convenient to log with a web browser to mysqueezebox.com and do some maintenance and stuff. You only need an active Internet...

After going away and thinking about this... the reason your player can't be seen locally is 'cause it's connected to the Internet, not your local PC, so you need to switch it back, either by logging into 'MySqueezeBox.com' and disconnecting it there, or at the squeezebox player itself, using the remote - you'll have to scroll thru to find "Connect to <local PC name>". As to you...

aubuti, Thanks. Got it now. My "understander" must be out of tune today Having read thousands of posts over the years I know how often "wireless/connection problems" come up. That's why I always recommend wired if it is doable. My oldest son remodeled part of his house recently. Put in two Squeezeboxes. We could have done it wirelessly BUT it was possible to put in network jacks so we did.......and by...

Just about any ethernet cable you buy nowadays will be fine.
Sounds like you modem has a built in ethernet switch, so yes you can almost certainly plug straight into it.

Thank you James R. and Toby.
I'll check out the site as you suggested Toby and I'll get a G rated router James. I'm really looking forward to my new "toy!".
I'm sure that I'll be back with more questions.
Thanks again. Michael K.

More thoughts for you:
Stereo vs mono is moot on the boom' the speakers are so close so it is acoustically and practically mono anyway (unless you listen with your nose against the display) but it has twice the speakers and a larger box, so it will output more sound.
Radio will have an optional battery pack, perfect if you want to lug it around near the pool or bathtub.

I would try updating to Squeezebox Server 7.4.1 first as it works fine with Snow Leopard.
If you still experience this issue after updating, I recommend contacting support.

Yes, your laptop (or whatever you use as a server) needs to be on (not in sleep mode) for any of the Squeeze devices.
With that said, you don't NEED the server to listen to music though. All of the devices can connect to the Squeezenetwork (or whatever its called this week) to listen to internet radio, Pandora, Napster, Rhapsody and other web-based music services.
Also, the Touch has ...

Make sure your MySB.com login info is entered correctly on your local SBS server > Settings > MySqueezeBox.com
