The high-end (expensive) digital is becoming harder and harder to justify as time passes. Network digital sources crushed CD drives. Affordable D/A converters are approaching dangerously the quality of older high-end dacs. It seems as if the market of digital sources is being compressed: Excellent clocks cost nothing, 120dB dac chips cost no more and they have embedded filters and a direct output stage. You just need a clean power and you can...

Very true. I was a bit myopic in my replay, but I wasn't considering your 24/48 vs 24/96 point. Sorry. I can't really speak to that other than my own experience comparing a SB3/CI Audio DAC vs Transporter. I discovered this week that my comparison method was faulty: I had both units set to sync in the SServer and as a result the server was outputting the greatest resolution file they could both decode - 24/48. I'd like to...

Hi John, About the ADM differences, the tryals with Phil explained to me that they are caused by the cloks drifting between the DA converter of SB and the AD converter of USB soundcard, He could 'lock' them in his system and reported that this eiminated any differences. The point is in 'real life' playback you could not lock the clock! Anyway, could you please report wich differences in sound you heard (maybe you already...

There comes me one thing to mind. Mr. Phil Leigh has some interesting findings with throwing everything into an Audio Diffmaker. It should be easy to compare 2 files. It also should show what version is louder by nature and may sound different alone due to that.

These filters have been banded about as being the Holy Grail of digital to analog conversion for quite a while now. I've yet to see a good third party review of their sonic benefits. Now that apodising filter technology is becoming more widespread, perhaps we will.
Now if I could just find an easy way of getting the spdif output of my Transporter into the hdmi input of my HD621, I could ...

I also tried the Asus O!Play, but didn't experience the same result you had. Thru my CI Audio DAC the SB3 had a grand soundstage and much better resolution. Could just be my own ears and room synergy, but the ASUS sounded like an MP3 player (even streaming FLAC) vs a full fledge Digital Stream Audio device.
That said, I love the video quality and ability to attach a low power HD with no ...

The defaults should be fine.
By default: " lossless files will be sent with the best lossless method the device knows how to handle (best meaning 'FLAC' or 'WAV', in that order); lossy files will be sent directly if they are a format the device knows, else they will be decoded on the server and sent in the best lossless format available"
Ie, FLAC and WAV will be sent as FLAC. AIFF will ...

Personally I find very few noticeable differences between DACs. Mostly I feel like (of course can't prove, I don't have the time or scope equipment) the differences come from the opamp section after the DAC itself.
What I would love to hear from you is some Audio Diff Maker samples from the TP and your Linn.

Just to cover the very obvious, you can rip your cd's to loseless and stream wirelesly to transporter. Isn't it the point of the gear pursued at this forums to do away with cables ? What would be the advantage of what you are trying to do ?
