I found this quote: Quote: The Carlton Hotel: Use to stand where New Zealand House is now located (80 Haymarket SW1). Opened in 1899 it was destroyed by a German bomb during the London blitz of 1940 and finally demolished during 1957-58 and rebuilt in 1959. It was a favourite place to dine for Winston Churchill who was eating here when war was declared in 1914.

Even before WWII there were plans to redevelop the centre of Coventry but the extensive bomb damage rapidly accelerated these plans. What was proposed was the wholesale rebuild of the centre with just a few post war buildings remaining, mostly the Cathedral area. The spire of the old Cathedral can be seen below with some of the proposed new buildings to the west. The ...

A Walk Around the West End I like to walk around neighbourhoods to see how people live. I chose Holland Park, where it seemed quite posh and upscale. Don't think I can afford a place here! Back when these were build, each door probably led to one house. But now I wonder how badly subdivided they are to generate more income....

Amazing! The Barbican looks great in those shots. It also reminds you how tall buildings can add a whole new perspective to a city - not just the view of them from the outside but the view from inside as well.
