Not sure Tony but I think those dark areas at the base of the pumphouse tower are creepers - there used to be a small garden in that area.

I wasn't going to, but people are raving about it, so I must say I am getting increasingly tempted, despite the £6 ticket. Lovely building that pumphouse, would love to know more about it. Is it used for anything today?

If the Liverpool One wheel stays I cant see the Arena one being a success. The views from the Albert Dock should be better but Liverpool One has the huge benefits of footfall on its doorstep.

Sadly, it also demonstrates the sheep like mentality of developers. Having gone through a craze for one bedroom rabbit hutch flats they are now caught up in a craze to build student accommodation here there and everywhere. This approach (chasing the short term buck) doesn't provide the groundwork for a sustainable city. Although, having said that it certainly a lot better than building any more low density housing developments.

Excellent stuff, Tomsk. We've talked about this before but the public realm around the university was dreck. That looks much better.

This first photo highlights the main downside to the slivery/grey cladding.. in a certain light and against a grey skyline it can look very dull..
However from most angles, and for most of the time (especially when it has some sun on it) it looks fantastic..

Just walked by there last night and suddenly realised the pavement had an impressively wide, uncluttered feel. Even that made a significant difference as I left the station, which is saying something.

A few weeks ago, NWT ran a report to mark the 25 years since the Garden Festival opened. As part of that, they mentioned that Langtree still believed the site would be developed at some point, and they were looking for others to work with them to achieve that. So in other words, the intention still exists to re-develop the site, but don't expect to see anything happen on site any time soon....

Great thread B4mmy, much needed. Thanks.
We can probably root out a few links to better photos for some of those, especially the Pier Head and Canal link one as it looks a bit confusing showing the museum!

This will have little bearing overall on the decision I imagine. This is a central govt scheme after all. If another, ultimately powerless advisory body has problems with a major plank of governmental policy, I think I know who'll come out on top.
Even if the Local Authority turn it down, where do we think the appeal goes to? Yep, Londinium, where this whole idea was dreamt up.
