The most obvious one is that shopp is not free, while
E-Commerce is.
Unfortunately, shopp does not appear to have a demo available online or for download.

Sometimes you do just have to pay to play and free isn't

If you want soemone to do it for you, you can do a
web search for "wordpress jobs" and it will give you a link to a site that lets you post your project. That's how I found my current wordpress guru.

WordPress is free and can do this stuff, but might be a bit overkill. However, there's something to be said for getting set up with something that makes expansion possible.
You could also try Perch , which isn't free but looks really nice, or CMS Made Simple.

I would take a look at vBulletin. It has a blog addon that could handle
your news and the Custom Profile Fields should let you do whatever you want
with showing member stats.

Creating themes and the corresponding templates in WordPress is not
difficult. I find the theme creation in WordPress a lot more intuitive, but
it's for you to try it out and make that comparison.
