Doesn't Open Office.org make an email client? I couldn't see anything on their site about it. I hate to say it, but if I cannot find a good email client, I may have to use webmail and save all my emails to my hard drive as text files and be done with it. I guess times change, eh? I'm going to have to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit and I guess having a good email client locally like I'm used to (I've been using Outlook...

Mac or this HP Pc?

I wouldn't buy a Samsung laptop. Samsung isn't a big computer manufacturer, so their experience at supporting and creating drivers for computers is limited compare to other brands. HP was a good idea.

Another vote for HP. I have purchased 3 HP comps in my lifetime and all of them still work. I have had one since 2003( January ), another since 2005( December ) and I bought a laptop a couple years ago. While I don't really like the laptop I chose( resolution ) it seems to be a quality machine and like the rest has been working flawlessly since I got it. Well, the power supply went out in one of the desktops but I don't count that.

The more reliable laptop brands these days are Dell, Lenovo, and Asus. I've seen fewer hardware issues and failure rates with those than with HP/Compaq, Gateway, Sony, and Toshiba.

Possibly an "drive image" might have been kept on the hard drive which the recovery cd would use to restore the computer.

Maybe it's just me but I would probably shy away from something like this. It sounds like someone with a keygen trying to make a fast buck.
If you really want the Windows 7 upgrade (which I hear is completely worth the price/hassle) then I would just buy it from a trusted source like Amazon.

If you get the Mac, are you going to repurchase all the software you already use?
I have an HP laptop (and desktop) and love it. I had an HP laptop years ago and it lasted forever too. I love that they had Windows 7 drivers out for my computers before Windows 7 was in stores, so I could upgrade without worry.
Anyway, I went with the HP TouchSmart laptop. Multi-touch touchscreen and tablet ...

Windows Live Mail is the new free e-mail client from Microsoft, and can import mail from your Outlook Express mail store directory.
Thunderbird 2 can also import your mails from those files.
I haven't tried Windows Live Mail myself, I moved to Thunderbird back in 2006 when Vista came out.
Either way, make sure you back up the mail store directory from OE before you upgrade the OS. Put it...

Personally, the best isn't the most non-intrusive. Norton hands down in my book is the best anti-virus, but it can drive me insane sometimes.
