Was in a 3-man pheasant hunting party one day. I was on the right of the line; we'll call me Hunter No. 1. Hunter No. 3 was on the left of the line and was a ways off collecting a retrieve. Me and Hunter No. 2 are just standing there waiting for No. 3 to rejoin the line when a shot pops up off from Hunter No. 2, who's in the middle of the line. I look at him, and his gun's straight up in the air. He's looking startled as...

Joe My understanding of the superiority of the roughness came exactly from the good Dr. & Prof. from OSU that is why I didn't understand the bit of gaga over mirror finish on the chokes........If I recall correctly their testing was before wraps or shotcups...I keep this in mind.......I have the Mysteries of Shotgun Patterns at my elbow as I type this.....Thank you. If I am running with the safety on like hunting I don't put my finger in the loop till I take the safety off but when shooting known targets I keep my finger straight along the edge of the trigger guard till I have full target recognition. I was sure glad this wasn't about spanking some stuffed dead horse!

Marketing people need things to talk about, I suppose, so it is understandable. We like to hear about higher muzzle velocity, even though factory lab numbers are not what comes out of our guns, and we don't normally take game at the muzzle. We like the idea that "speed kills" even though 100 fps at the muzzle is no game-changer at 40, 50, 100, much less 200 yards. We like the "energy transfer" idea, I...

Steve, That was an outstanding description of AD and ND. I absolutely agree with you, the distinction is important. I will remember that.

The problem is the one closest to the muzzle. I don't remember if that's right or left, and I am too lazy/tired right now to drag out my gun and look.

I have 2 390's. One is the same gun you describe, but in 12 ga. The gun can be purchased new for $569.00 at places like Bass Pro and Cabelas when you can find them. Supply seems to be spotty. With that said, I personally consider the Beretta 390 at $569.00 to be one of the best values available anywhere. The guns are the most reliable that I have ever encountered. I have thousands of ...

I,m no expert, but I think there is something wrong with the gun. I have heard of manual saftys that stay on un til you take it off, but not that, thats dangerest, have it looked at; I had a1968 lion, nice gun.

Welcome! The most common load for home defense use is low-recoil buckshot. The use of birdshot for short-range(10 yards or less) defense comes up frequently here. The only way to reliably stop someone is to break vital parts, and those are fairly deep in the torso. The issue with birdshot is that it doesn't penetrate very far and produces an ugly but relatively shallow wound. If you got a...

guide, as for the VAST majority of "hunters" , trust me , most of the birds are perfectly safe. "pot shooting" birds on the ground is not fair to the bird because he doesn't have a fair chance to escape. Birds are not as tough as most 4-footed animals and once they are hit by even a couple of pellets, will be on the ground and available for an easy retrieve.....Jack

Get a safe... if you have more than one gun the cost of the safe will be less than replacement of two guns. The cost of an accidental discharge in your home can be catastrophic. The big box stores have them on sale at times. Keep an eye out . Some insurance companies will offer a discount if you have a safe. I got one free from a buddy who was relocating and didn't want to move it. check the...

Lets say you have a decent (not a beater, just a decent gun you dont want anything to happen to) shotgun that has been thoroughly cleaned since the last use, bore, action, all been scrubbed. You use the gun to take a shot or two at some crows that are in your yard, and know you wont be using the gun for probably another couple months, maybe more. Would you completely clean the bore? Scrub it ...

In general I would say no. Other than sales at Dick's, most new shotgun prices are up and used prices are higher too. Here in Ky. there still seems to be shortages of anything tactical or defense styled.

I forgot to add that I also oil the plunger rod (assemby) with an oily rag. It almost seems like I have a weak mag spring (since it only does it on the 3rd shot). ???? jed

00 buck does not "bounce off" hogs at reasonable distances -- 20-30 yards. I've shot and rolled several in the past year using both 2 3/4" and 3" buck of 00 and 000 size. I shoot them over baited barrels at night at approx. the distances noted above. No problem. Now, you get much further out and you're going to get some wounded animals that run. Hogs are tough...but not indestructable as some ...
