vintage M37

"Straw" colored components were not factory original. Trigger was polished metal and the rest blued. The choke is a personal issue. They are effective but if you can't accept, I suggest passing on the gun. It is what it is. Good luck.

This is not a knock on the guys in Sandusky, but if you have a limited budget you can find an older 12 gauge Model 37 in good shape without much effort for $300.00, and they are a real bargain! If you want a 20 gauge you will have to look much longer and expect to pay more. I don't think you can wear out a Model 37 and if you need a part they are easy to come by. Good Luck! R.

My old 900

Anyone know anything about an Ithaca/SKB long recoil autoloader called "Lightning"? My Virginia hunting buddy has one. I have Ithaca catalogues for every year they were the importer for SKBs and no "Lightning." The gun seems to be a lighter weight version of a 900.

My old 900

I have used this gun as much as any gun in my cabinet. It is an old Ithaca SKB 900. It has been used well and still shoots good. It has a few battle scars. Ever once in a while, I take the old guns out and wipe them down. I wanted to share them with you for old times sake. I had to change the background. The wife didn't want oil on her carpet. It is a keeper, not for sale. It has been in my safe since 1969.

Ithaca 51 snagged for good price

The shorter stock fits a bit better but probably needs to be shortened another 1/4". My load of 22.1 grains of Universal Clays, 1 1/8 oz in WAA12 wad, either an STS hull or compression formed AA hull shoots a bit high left at 30 yards from looking at the pattern board. This may explain why I was missing birds going straight away or angled to the right. This load shows a chamber pressure of approximately 10,000 PSI. I was thinking of...

Very neat page Walter. Looks like some of those guns had been in inventory for a while -- the 12-gauge NID Field Grade 426329, the NID 3E 12-gauge 427031, the NID 12-gauge 7E 429524, the NID 12-gauge 4E 436714, the 12-gauge NID 3E 439465, and the .410-bore NID Field Grade 446754. The rest of the NIDs being in the 454xxx to 457xxx range which fits in the range for late 1928 to 1930 guns.

Picked up a well cared for 51 in a trade. Tried it out yesterday with a box of 1 1/8 oz 3 dram reloads and it functioned great. The LOP was 14" which was a bit long for me so I shortened it to 13 5/8" and refitted the butt plate. If it handles better at this length, I'll add a recoil pad (though the recoil was mild with the butt plate).
