12 shot repeating flintlock

Square bullets? How aerodynamic is that? That would be another to see. I just love old guns. When I was younger I went to the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Cody WY. I was fascinated!! I could have spent all day there and slept on the floor for the next day it they'd of let me. I ogled all the guns on display. And could have spent all day there, but when you have a wife that found nothing appealing in guns... well lets say they were not as...

Richland Arms was in Blissfield Mich, where I live. I remember being in there shop once years ago but didn't even know that they made firearms. They went out of business a long time ago, couldn't tell you when. Seems like I remeber seeing some of their shotguns but couldn't tell you more.

Keeping powder dry

A cows knee is exactly as implied, a cows knee. That part of the hide that could not be used for clothing, a scrap piece of leather. But shaped into a U shape the covered the lock on a rifle. The knee portion of the hide was actually streched a bit because of the knee and when shaped to fit on the rifle protected the lock area very well. You can always try some wax from a toilet bowl seal ring(unused), it is very soft and will stick well to...

Federal law trumps state law. I was wondering about this. It might be wise to delete this thread entirely. I don't know but it might have been legal when I was a kid. That was a long long time ago. Like I stated before, commercial powders are best . It would be hard to duplicate the performance anyway plus it is dangerous to produce especially to novices. If I had kids I wouldn't want them fooling with it I know that.

Rifle miss-fire dangerous!!!
Published (2009-12-29 11:20:00)
I have a knight Wolverine.. circa 2003 ..now referred to as a Knight Bighorn. The bolt was back and cocked the 209 primer exposed. When I dropped the rifle I thought the bolt had slammed foward and triggered the charge. It did not! After the discharge the bolt was still cocked back, the saftey which is on the right side of the gun WAS STILL ON.. yet the gun upon impacting the ground had fired. After impact the trigger could not be moved the...

Would like a pass thru???
Published (2009-12-31 07:17:00)
I think it's funny how we all keep giving advice, for months on end, when the OP is long gone. For my money, a deer hit in the heart/lungs with a .429, or larger, bullet doesn't need a whole lot of expansion or energy transfer, it just needs an exit wound of half an inch or more, to paint the way to my venison. When folks say they don't want the bullet to exit, I just figure they don't hunt where it's thick or damp....

That is crazy... I would love to get a closer look at that. You wonder, what were they thinking when they came up with that. It would be interesting to watch that being shot.

I use 180 grain round balls in front of 100 gr of FFFg, never had a through and through shot but they always go down. Not the most accurate or best load maybe but it holds 6" at 100 yards and I never shoot farther than 60 yards so it's good enough for me. If you really want to go through why don't you just up the powder a little bit?

jaguarxk120,
The problem I have is I really do not know what grain it is i.e. FG, FFG, FFFG. I can't assume and if I put too much might damage my GPR or Hawkens.
I suppose I could start out very light load and work up but I do not feel comfortable not knowing! Schuetzen Reenactor is meant for shooting blanks.
Thansk for the response. I think I'll give it back to my friend.

I shot a bit last night and went with 2 of the 50 grain pellet loads and a 250 grain bullet. My accuracy seems decent at about a 3" group or less at 100 yards. I am going to try to get it to a 2" group before I leave this weekend. I shot at an indoor range and it's a bit tough to concentrate when you have several magnum firearms going off right beside you in closed quarters....but the wind was ...

Traditional black powder is hard to beat, so if you do decide to make the drive I would suggest that you buy several pounds. You might also ask around and see if you and several others could make a group purchase and have it shipped to you, splitting the haz-mat fee might be less expensive than the cost of gas. If not then I would go with Triple 7 in 2f.

I'm not sure if this subject is legal. Anyway you have to use a certain
type of wood for charcoal for best results. I think it was willow. I was a
kid so I don't recall. I used a door screen for granuation. It would dry
and you just tap the screen and you have uniform grains. I would not
recommend making any. I almost burnt my eye and was lucky it stopped
burning into it. Blackpowder will burn ...

Since both were pass through results, were you able to determine what kind of expansion occurred, if any? The reason I ask is that is a fairly light charge over a fairly heavy bullet, so I was wondering if they expanded at all? Hard to argue with the results, though.

I've thought up another improbable scenario: The gun loaded with a slug in a Silglide or other sabot that is easy to push into the barrel. The gun hits the ground and the bullet and sabot, aided by inertia of the powder charge, are pushed down the tube, drawing a vacuum that pulls the primer forward up against the nipple. The problem? I don't see how the air itself would generate enough force ...

I use a traditional flintlock and am looking for suggestions as to keeping the powder in the pan dry under adverse conditions. I typically keep the rifle at outdoor temperature prior to loading the main charge. If expecting wet/snowy conditions I tape the muzzle but have yet to figure out a method to keep the lock/pan dry. I have tried the Saran wrap bit but found it a hassel. On stand I will...

Did not find a picture but found information on it. It was Richland Arms Blissfield Michigan. Says here 1973. I think it was imported from Italy. Appears to be rare now.
