Bill, Some pictures would be helpful to identify what rifle you really have. Are there any German markings on the rifle such as swastikas? The inscription ..."Manufacture "d" armes Deletat".. sounds to be French or Belgian. There are a lot of good folks here that will try to help you in this matter. All the best... Gil

Sounds like it maybe a Belgium M1935 (Belgium Mauser 98 with those markings). Remeber the Lowlands got overran by the Germans in 1940 and the Germans were quick to put into use captured weapons. If orginal caliber could be the 7.65x53mm Mauser or converted over to 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser). If you could post some pictures of the action and the whole rifle. CD

The M14/M1A is very similar to the M1 Garand, but the M14 has a 20 round box magazine that is the easiest identifier. I'm not aware of any US Military usage of the M1 though.

Mauser 98 problems

Great input, thank you. That makes a lot of sense, and it turns out that at least some of my problem is operator error. I had no idea I have to pay attention to how I load it. It's with a very reputable gunsmith now, so I hope he will find any problems that may (or may not...) exist with the gun. I'm going to call him and confess that I wasn't loading it correctly. I was hoping to use the 350 grain TSX, so it would be nice if...

6.5 Grendel
Published (2009-12-23 10:55:00)
.......want to state that all the Alexander Arms products are proprietary products. They are, and the supposed patent is, owned by Bill Alexander. If he chooses to withdraw or limit the uppers, brass, etc,to the general public,he can. I feel that he did this with the .50Beowulf brass about a year ago. It drove the price up to $1.50 each(~). IIRC he was caught in a lie re. Starline or Wolf producing the Beowulf brass. He said they wouldn't...

The original magazine follower on a ' 98 Mauser will prevent closing the bolt on an empty chamber. A lot of rifles were altered my chamfering the rear of the follower to allow the bolt to close when the magazine was empty.
The second problem may need a bit of attention. The round should feed from the magazine. Without seeing the rifle, it is a bit difficult to say what is going on. The ...

I think the 98 mauser should have been higher also. I also would have included the Lever action. It was the grandpa of all the repeaters. and used a lot in battle.

Was on a forum re. one of the Alexander Arms products for some 3 years, and for the last two, listened to the outcry of the "potential" weapon, ammo, and associated parts, buyers of the Alexander Arms products. This re. delivery times, product availability and out and out lying to their customers.
Also re. their practices that has to do with QA and even product safety in general. Even heard of a ...

I have always shot Varget or 748 in my AR.
Usually the load for the Varget is between 24 and 26, depending on the bullet/range/conditions. Been shooting this form many years with no signs of any measurable problems, and fantastic accuracy. H4895 has worked very well also.
