No theire safe to use. But you should keep the load`s on the mild side and not try to get as much out of them as you could with a modern rifle or with an action built before 1939 or after 1955. Gratulations on your buy. not many of them left I hear, not around here Scandinavia anyway.

Hex is older. Think they switched to the round style to save production costs back in the 30s? I don't have the exact date. Once in a while you'll get one made for the czar by Remington or Westinghouse, but those will bring a premium (and full well look like they have been dragged through 2 world wars). Have fun.

It has always been my understanding that the Spanish loaded their version of the 7.62x51 NATO to pretty mild pressures. I guess they were as unsure of the strength of a Mdl. 93 Mauser in 7.62 as I am. There may be some truth to it, I'm not sure. HD1

Had mine out with me hunting last weekend, she sat in my stand, but didn't see anything within the limits I set for taking a shot with mine. Found that 19.0 grains of A 2400 shoots to POA with the 310 grain Lee, and should give about .44 Mag ballistics.

If I remember correctly there are several different mags depending which Enfield No. you have. There's a vendor that shows at out gun shows who has tables of magazines. I got an extra No.4 Mk1 from him several years ago. Next show is Fargo ND January 2-3.

J&G have been in business for years in Prescott, Az. Many a tire has been worn down between here and there buying/selling firearms and accessories. As stated, the M-N rifles look like you could use them for axe handles to split firewood (my favorite expressed usage for the two I have is potential tomato stakes!), but must admit, the 7.62x54R cartridge is almost akin to a .308 Win or low powered 30-06. The rifles CAN be pretty accurate,...

You folks on here have yet to steer me wrong. Should I stay away from these?...

The MNs are a bargain at the price. Yes, they are of an obsolete design, long and clunky-looking for the modern shooter, but they are strong, reliable, and durable in the extreme. Most of the arsenal-refinished rifles on the market have at least Very Good bores -- my two, a 91/30 and a M38, have beautiful pristine bores, and with Bulgarian Heavy Ball surplus ammo or new Sellier& Bellot soft point ammo both will shoot 2" groups...

I think I may get one. For some reason I think they're great looking. Hex or round barrell? Which would be best?

I don't know why that rifle wouldn't be legal in New York State.
In New York City? I don't know- that's a different country.

The Swiss Vetterlis are great fun to shoot. I converted one to CF about 8 months ago, and have shot it sporadicly since. I think Buffalo arms still has Lee 10.4 dies from the run Lee did some time back. $31 bucks for a die set is lot better than RCBS prices. My Lee dies work fine in this caliber.
I've been forming brass from .348 Winchester, but be aware you might need to turn the cartridge ...

How do you operate the Arisaka safety? I have had and shot many T38's and
T99's and always used the palm of my hand to twist the safety knob. I found
it quick and handy myself but I was not using any optics which might be in
the way of your hand. All of mine were in full military condition or
lightly sporterized.

Andy, a few years ago, the Spanish Mausers were very common. Now the imported numbers have dried up. I had a fair number of the M1943 Spanish Mausers and had no problems with them. I have read reports that the Spanish used too soft steel, but have never seen signs of this. I shot milsurp ammo and also reloaded for those rifles, keeping pressures in the same range as milsurp ammo. The rifles did ...

FN and other manufacturers exported rifles all over the world. I believe a few countries did in fact adopt the .30-06 for military use in the mauser actions, but being away from any references I can't say whom it could have been made for. Any other markings that would identify it?
Of course, rifles get rebarreld all the time so the history of that gun could be quite complex.....

Oh, the visiscitudes of being a gun nut...
You should do it if you want to.
You should not do it if you don't want to.
Only one question...If they enact a new assault weapons ban, will you be sorry you don't have an AR-15?
