Isn't too defensive a bit of a misnomer? It suggests that your being defensive to your detriment. Wouldn't it be more appropriate if you were as defensive as neccessary which in practice was much more defensive than the general consensus.

This was in the grappling forum, and it is funny as hell. The guy in the video has 27 years plus of experience of in the ninja arts and he gets taken out by a white belt judo guy. He later tries to explain to the crowd that even though he got taken down, the judo guy couldn't do anything while having his back. Read the discription on the youtube link. YouTube - Judo vs Ninja

Train a couple months in BJJ or Muay Thai. And you probably won't even want to train in a single disciple of Martial Arts again. It's called cross training.

Use body shots; he will never call you out again if you put a solid body shot clinic on him and the best part is that you dont really have to worry about hurting him. Just break him down until he gives up.
Also, dont spar in the dark, thats stupid.

i cant remember the names but in pacific beach there was a pretty descent gym right on the boardwalk where people rent those crazy scooter things that they say you never fall off of even tho you lean forward to make it move... they have a gracie that comes and teaches their jits classes and a few champion MT guys i think. there is also a place closer to downtown that had REALLY good MT guys and a...

Besides "catching a southpaw" isn't what I said . I said "catching a southpaw off guard". Eliminating obvious expectations from the opponent makes obvious sense.

Sup guys,
Just want to ask about some tips and opinions regarding the correct form and execution of a Muay Thai Roundkick because some instructors always insist that my other foot should always be planted on the ground and should not tiptoe during the kick,
But when I am watching Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Buakaw Por. Pramuk, Samkor and other Pro Nak Muays they do the tiptoe thingy when ...

It's karate so you're not going to need any equipment as you'll be a white belt. I haven't trained in Kyokushin but in the vids I've seen online they still practice punching to the face and defending it.

Interesting that Winky Wright says the exact same thing. His body shots start with the Jab and looking for openings. Winky is another technician and he says the same thing as Mike just with a little different terms.

There's a lot of info on the net, just do a search.
I don't think you're going to get much out of it though, you really need someone who knows what's up to watch and correct technique. Bad practice=bad habits=getting KTFO.

A story about hurting people.
So for some reason i'm remembering this story today. Bored at work so i'll tell it:
A year back we had a fighter at our gym, we'll call him Danny for the purposes of this thread. Mid 20's, attractive, fairly athletic, took to Muay Thai pretty damn quickly for someone with little prior experience....

No technique is "useless", no major style wouldn't allow for proficiency if used properly.
It's the fighter that counts.
The boxer beats the tai chi guy cuz he's better.
The tai chi guy might win if he were better.
This seems like you are just looking to justify boxing as superior to TMA's.
It's not.

Just wondering how many of you out there have had to work focus mitts with a complete moron, if so what are some of your most annoying moments.
Mine for one happened today. I was working on the mitts just working on slipping, parrying, bobbing and weaving. My partner however was a complete know it all, who just so happens to have just started boxing a few weeks ago. So I'm working on my ...

I think one of the biggest problems with side kicks isn't the kick itself its that most people dont practice them. I've seen a few guys that put a lot of work in them and they are devestating to the ribs and stomach. They can be done extremely fast, you just have to put in the work, and most people, myself included, dont.
