Sorry if this isn't in the correct section, didn't really know where to post this. I was browsing for local clubs in my area and I stumbled across this; (actual quotation from their main site) "Internationally recognized 1st Degree Black Belt in the mixed Jiu-Jitsu Arts which combines Jiu-Jitsu, Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai". Now, I'm certainly no expert in recognizing each and...

when i roll with a wrestler i find them to be so strong the only way i can get them is to choke them out what makes them so strong? is it the training, their drills? Something about them gives them so much power also that have this speed about them that is hard to contain

i have been training for my second fight now. the other day a guy that everyone says is good came over and started rolling with me it caught me by suprise how good this guy really was. he started showing me techniques that i never even comprehended. it really made me think how far can the ground game go. this man left me truely speechless. i would like it if some people could share their ...

I was neck cranked about 3-4 weeks ago and my neck has been odd ever since. It was actually fine for a while following the initial injury and has gotten worse. The guy put leverage on my neck and I heard three distinct cracking noises, akin to cracking one's knuckles. Went to the doctor who diagnosed some muscular strain but no lasting problems. I stopped doing BJJ since then due to a back ...

It's a constant, I'm always getting stuck under HUGE guys with 40-50lbs on me in their side control or crushed in 1/2 guard. I have Kestings Dynamic 1/2 guard and that helped alot with guys close to my size, but I need suggestions and high percentage moves that work on BIG guys. Help, it the biggest hole in my game and I feel it's really holding me back. I'm getting really frustrated.

A fella made this comment over on another thread in relation to the zelg/kin fight where kin tried to post out of a whizzer takedown and burst his elbow. It seems so true. How to avoid this? I'm have no great experience in grappling but I guess an obvious answer is to train it. But just for a more immediate peace of mind can anyone describe how to avoid such injuries, what do you actually...

I think its a bit ambitious to ask for a judo sub-forum, but could we maybe get a judo thread stickied? It seems that most guys here are BJJ'ers, so when they post, I think they are mostly looking for BJJ responses, and as such, I think us judo guys dont have much to say. The opposite often happens though too, and as such, I think we could do with a single stickied thread for us judoists to ...

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine who did BJJ under Wander Braga. He's 24 and said he got close to getting his blue belt. It is his opinion that BJJ is the best grappling art to know when in an altercation. I suggested Judo and wrestling were probably better because fighting is primarily about TOP CONTROL . Meaning, when a grappler fights landing on top is of the utmost ...

I'd say the few gogoplatas I've ever pulled were pretty sweet. I once went for a a flying armbar, completely missed, but transitioned into this great star sweep that put this guy on his ass. You?

So my academy has just changed up policy. Now we're required to wear white gis only , and they must have one Gracie patch and one academy patch on them. That means I have a blue Keiko raca that is basically never going to be worn, and I need to buy two sets of patches for my two white gis. Kinda irritated by this whole thing, especially since I've been training there for two years now and ...

This is a thread where I am going to do a lot of complaining/bitching, so if that's not your thing, don't bother with this thread. First thing: I just got back from the competition held this morning/afternoon at Renato Tavare's place in Vero Beach. I went there and competed and thought I would just half ass it and have a good time. It was my first competition and I went in with a good ...

Have you ever seen it happen? I did. The teacher said he was showing a demonstration of how to escape and if the student was applying the choke correctly.Well the Teacher went out. But why wouldnt he have us choke each other out and save the embarassment? He is a purple belt under the Machados. I am starting to worry about this gym. I mean its the only one around and its cheap, but yeeesh......

This is about my troubles trying to learn rubberguard in a gym that doesn't teach it, and I wonder if anyone else out there has encountered issues like this. It's a bit of a read but I have some steam to blow off here. When I first realized I was pretty good at holding and recovering guard I decided to look for styles and techniques that would work well from guard. I found rubberguard ...
