you could also look at casting it. I think make a negative in wsf, pure wax in and then use that to cast.

Necklace with ring

I made a Christmas ornament ( http://www.shapeways.com/model/72555/g1.html ) that I showed to two friends and they both wanted versions in stainless steel to give as gifts. It should be about 18.4g of weight (about a third of a candy bar). The loop on top is 6mm on the inside to allow a finding to go through. You can make that much smaller if you have access to someone who can add a finding to the necklace bit AFTER you've put the...

Is it possible to print a chain ?
Published (2009-12-13 23:15:00)
Take a look at the tutorials: http://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/ and the "Designing mechanical parts" series at the end of the page. 0.6 mm should be ok for White, Strong & Flexible for the minimum space, but it depends on the form. I was lucky with my model with 0.5 mm clearance: http://www.shapeways.com/model/2258/ I think for a chain even less space could work, because there is not as much contact area as with...

Is it possible to print a chain ?

Sweet ^^ And is there a minimum space between rings to have a proper separation ? Does it change anything if it's printed in metal ?

If you're looking for that detailed a model, then 3-d printing is not the proper technique. You might want to consider milling the coin, or die-pressing. I really like the idea, though!

Manifolds in Sketchup
Published (2009-12-10 06:28:00)
Apologies for necro-posting, but this does seem to be thread to post this. Obviously, I got a non-manifold error when trying to upload to Shapeways. I watched the "how to fix manifolds" video (which assumes I know my way around Blender), read this thread, and tried to fix it on my own. I saved the file as .dae and opened it in meshlab. I ran "Remove non-manifold faces" and "Remove non-manifold...

Trouble With Manifolds

Hello everyone! I am having an issue with my 3D file. I made this file here and got a manifold error. I researched the problem and tried fixing it but I didn't get far unfortunately. I even contacted support and they tried to assist me but still no luck. I was then referred to the forums. Hoping someone can help! So basically, this is supposed to be a keychain with a little hole going through at the bottom left to place the string/chain...

Trouble With Manifolds

Hi! I haven't used 3D Studio for years so I don't remember how it show incorrect edges/faces but if I "read" your screenshot right this might be helpful. It cooould be a case of 2-point polygons hiding where there should only be an edge.. Try selecting polygons around the problem edges to see if you can select one (or more) polygons that just has two endpoints. If that's the case, the easiest solution is...

Hi all,
I finally killed all the inverted normals in the model I was doing, so here is the Zen Box .
The interesting thing in its concept is that it is made of two parts that are identical.
The consequence of this is that you can open it from any end.
I called it "Zen" because if you have one of the part printed in Black Detail and the other in White Detail then the left and ...

Hi everyone ,
I'm Pari, a design student in Singapore. I'm new to Shapeways and I just got started with some designs to print.
The one that I am working on now is called ' Lucky Penny'. The idea is that you make your own unique penny with your own portrait and some customizable text.
I'm also interested to compare this coin with normal coins, in terms of weight, the degree ...

Looking down the Calender, the next Holiday that you can order and receive in time for (in the US at least) is MLK day. January 17th. By my math you have to order by the 4th to receive by the 17th. That should be 10 business days. But I believe MLK is a Postal holiday so Idono order by the 3rd? So here is my MLK tribute Flicka. http://www.shapeways.com/model/74850/mlk_day_flick a.html

The batwing we can't see, you must have it set to private. But to do the wings, they have to be 1mm (.7mm for WSF but 1mm is recomended) You could always create a negative of it and cast it.

I don't know what your model looks like (can you show us a picture?), so this might not work, but it shouldn't be too hard to add small branches that meet at a base. The base wouldn't have to be too big, just so long as it covers the center of mass.

Well I've seen some talk lately of 3D printed joints. The problems are, you either make it too tight or too loose, and you won't be able to get it to stay stationary. Well here's my first idea. I have another idea that may work for stainless prints. This first one uses a spring to hold the joint meshed with a gear. If you push the joint towards the cube, then it releases the gear, and can spin...

My model is being rejected for not being a manifold object. I've watched the video and thought I had it fixed, but I'm still having troubles.
Is anyone willing to help me or point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
