WPS 8 and Windows 7
Published (2009-12-24 14:06:42)
The first two messages relate to SVS - Symantec Virtualisation Solution, now called Symantec Workplace Virtualisation, which is not yet available for 64 bit environments as far as I am aware. So the 32 bit version is not installed as per the error message. The second message refers to the program hooking into the API calls, which is perceived as a security issue with new operating systems, so it's up to you to decide if...

WPS error logging?
Published (2009-12-23 15:31:17)
Well having never seen or used WPS to package an application for deployment it was hard for me to say exactly which part of the process I need the logs for. Not having any logs would explain why I cannot find information on logging using WPS. We plan to use WPS to package MSI's and other programs for deployment via SMS/SCCM into our enterprise. I was asked to...

You said you extracted an MSI? If you extracted it from source, then you should not capture this application. Use that MSI to create MST see if you could do some settings in MST to hide activation. ( There could be some properties related to license key or registration or activation or there could be some other method also ) If source exe doesnt have any MSI then look out for ini and xml file settings to avoid activation....

I'm sorry, but if you have to ask that question, you really are in the wrong industry. SVCHOST is, as a Google search would have told you, the host process for Windows services that are contained within a DLL, as opposed to those which run from an EXE.

The whole concept behind product activation is to prevent piracy of the software, so it is highly unlikely that you will be able to defeat this process using capture. Since the capture engine does exclude certain parts of the file system and registry, and does not have default access to other areas of the registry, it is fairly easy for software authors to store information in areas ...

Where you have companion files associated with a component, their installation logic is determined by the key path file. So if the key path file is set to install (after version checking, etc), then the companion files are also set to install (regardless of any version issues with the companion files).
In other words, the installation and version checking logic that is applied to the ...

When you run the app in silent mode, the UI sequence does not run, so any public properties normally set via user dialogs will either revert to their default value, if there is one in the property table, or the property will not exist. Properties can also be set by custom actions in the UI sequence.
Finally, if the app is a vendor MSI, then the authors could have set a requirement that ...

You are correct in thinking that an upgrade should remove the previous entry in ARP, so it is clear that something is not working as it should.
When creating the upgrade, you should ideally start with the original MSI and make changes only where required, then run UpgradeSync so that the new MSI can be checked for consistency of component GUIDs, etc, for unchanged components.
You may ...
