Adding new LUN to existing mount...

In fact disk group has to be imported and vxfs file system has to be mounted in order to increase or decrease the vxfs file system size. If I were to assume that volume manager can see the LUN that you are going to add then there is no issue but in case it is not then you may have to restart volume manager daemon in order to make it visible to the volume manager and if you do so then I would suggest you to freeze the service group before you...

Sri, If you want a shared disk group (concurrent access, ie: both systems have dg imported and have the filesystems mounted at the same time), you need Storage Foundation Cluster File System to import the dg as shared and manage the concurrent access. ie: do not create a parallel disk group resource if you have a traditional diskgroup, as this can result in data corruption. As Scott mentioned, if you just need failover access (ie: the dg only...

Another note, for all SFHA error codes, you can always check them out here: https://vos.symantec.com/ecls/umi/V-3-25290 (Just substititute the actual error code at the end of the URL). I checked yours and there is no current solution, but you can request that an answer be added right there on the form.

Thanks for the replies. Special thanks for g_lee for the valuable information. The logical volume is a part of HP-UX LVM which was increased in size with duly increasing the filesystem on it on the standard host ( HP-UX 11.11 PA) attached to an EMC symmetrix storage. The BCV of which was attempted to mount on the BCV host (HPX-UX 11.31 IA) and it failed at fsck stage as mentioned before. Since the EMC mirroring is working normal, I suspected...

Do you still have the SF media kit and/or download? You will find a 'Windows' folder in the root directory. All the Windows GUI's can be located there. Look for 'VRTSobgui'.

Hi all, I wonder wether there is a maximum supported number of sites to be used in the site awareness feature of VxVM... Does anybody know? I searched the admin guide, but found no information about this... Thanks and best regards, Christian

Adding new LUN to existing mount...
Published (2009-12-15 17:34:55)
In a cluster setup,  first you need to make sure the LUNs are available/ visible  on both the nodes.  Then perform vxdisksetup to match the format (sliced / simple / or cds)  add luns to the shared diskgroup. Once the luns are successfully added to the diskgroup, simple vxresize command will magically expand the filesystem for you. You can increase the mounted shared veritas  filesystem,...

Hi Sri, Not entirely following but here goes. It sounds like you want to have a disk group that can be accessed by either host. A traditional diskgroup can do this. To access the diskgroup with server 1, you import the diskgroup command is vxdg import -- see here for details: http://sfdoccentral.symantec.com/sf/5.0MP3/solaris ... Now, if you want to access the diskgroup from ...

First of all you need to add the LUN to the disk group # vxdisksetup -if <disk name> --> This will initialize the disk. Basically it will put private and public region on the disk header so that volume manager can work with the disk. # vxdg -g <disk group name> adddisk <disk access name, as you prefer>=<disk media name, as displayed in "vxdisk list" command> This command would ...

The site awareness feature uses volume tags, and the enforcement is done on the mirrors of a given volume. The limit on the number of mirrors of a given volume is 32, so that's the limit. Now, if you're not really using the site awareness feature, and are just using the site tag name for tracking or inventory or reporting, then your constraint is how many tag names you can stuff into ...

Assuming the volume isn't a vset (ie: the problem isn't a missing vset device as the error suggests) - has the filesystem (and/or its volume) been resized recently? This error can be seen if the filesystem is larger than the volume it resides on (eg: the underlying volume was shrunk without resizing/shrinking the filesystem accordingly). Check the following output to see if the sizes...
