tested in my test environment i installed a client as unmanaged set the hart beat to 100 mins exported the client install settings made the clent manged updated with 20 mins i'm sure liveupdate nothing to do with heartbeat. any inputs? Rafeeq

Not scientifif proof or anything, but I've now pushed our standard packages via the wizard to two DEFAULT standard, no modifications at all Windows 7 installs. I used a desktop and a notebook, installed Win7 CLEAN from scratch on a formatted drive. I accepted all defaults. I joined the domain. if you can check the application event viewer, you will get the information. something like this "New virus definition file loaded. Version: 111202f." or also you can check the SEP client system logs for the information.

Sorry I forgot to add that you should check out this guide http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/331071.htm . It talks more abotu heuristic dectection and how to set the sensitivity level higher so you don't get as many false positives (keep in mind you don't get as good of protection, there is always this trade-off). sep is not scanning the usb automatically. For its not recommended to scan usb once inserted because there will be might a problem during accessing files especially if you have large usb capacity.

you can protect user interface or symantec service stop with password.
you can do in in here;
Click clients tab > Click Policies tab > Click General Settings.
the General Settings for your gorup window will open.
Choice Security Settings
check box "Require a password for open the client user interface"
check box "Require a password to stop the client service"

Create a new group and export the communication settings.... use that sylink file to replace on the client using sylink replacer... After that all client will appear in the new server...

Does the client icon have a green light? When you look at help and Support, Troubleshooting, does it show online with the server? On the console, does it show online and what is the last checkin time? Can you force a policy update, and does that change the last checkin time? If you have more than one client, can you export a policy from a working one and import it to a non-working one?...

the first thing is please check if your manager is updated with latest defs and clients are online
where are the clients located who are not getting the defs? another lan, outside network?
any location awareness policy?
are the definitions stuck on one particular date?
