A hallmark of a rebreather that it has self contained cylinders. Any cylinder not completely open is subject to destruction. This rule is subject to some latitude, but in fact they would be within guidelines adopted by the FAA and the airline to object even if a cylinder had a piece of tape or kleenex wadded into the neck. Open, alas, means open . Stupid TSA? Well, stupid inflexible...

Not hard at all. While I have seen some truly remarkable things as a diver, by far the best was a pair of hammerhead sharks for the first time. It was not seeing the sharks themselves that was so remarkable. I wasn't that close to them, they are skittish and swam off before I could get a decent photograph. But my 13 year old daughter, Sammi, pointed them out as we were diving in San Salvador...

From what I've read, it's sort of like PADI Divemaster course without the teaching aspect. I believe Rescue is part of the Naui MSD, as opposed to a pre-req. with PADI. Naui has some pretty tough swim requirements for MSD, much like PADI DM. Also, I believe there is a written test for Naui MSD. PADI MSD is 50 logged dives, Rescue diver and any 5 specialties.

As a point of reference we did mask clearing skill in a discover scuba class. Open pool, instructor and 3 students. I am sure we would have done it with only 3 of us, and that's when they're trying to hook us into taking the full cert course, so I'm thinking its a requirement of the agency - PADI in this case.

Congratulations on getting certified. I will leave the rest for others.....however I will say that I do not believe that 128' is a wise depth choice for a brand new diver. Hopefully the rest of the newly trained divers that are reading this thread (since it is located in the BASIC Scuba Discussions area) took more away from their training and do not do this.

Wow! I've been meaning to go dive with Cowsharks and the only time I've actually been down to Capetown for that the dives were canceled due to seas being too rough. I'm just curious, are you personally involved with this outfit or why are you punting them? They seem exorbitantly expensive. Looks like the type of outfit that typically don't really cater for South Africans but ...

I keep some de-fog in my pocket, so it is always handy between dives. I keep another one in my mesh bag under my tank area. They cost about $5 and last forever, but I am cheated of the charming ritual of spitting into my mask.
