going to build my first 2.4...

I agree. There is a lot of hidden power. Simple is to change the shape of the piston ports. Here is a set I just done for a 2.4 200 I am building. I am also decking the block and the pistons to effectively raise the porting. Shaving the front, filling up the oil gear passage, make #2 close to the same cc as the other 5. Check out T-rex's cherry 2.4 project for more ideals. [/IMG]

that is a 1 1/4 dia propshaft number that case number has no connection to CLE Sporty or Torqmaster carriers? you must have a Promax for this to be pulling up, the case number you stated was a fishing motor case 2.1 and 1.87

the top seal is kinda hard. another thing, it was a little dark when I tore the powerhead down. now that I put a little light on it, there's rust all over the crank, top to bottom. no rust on the rods though. i'd almost swear this thing went under at some point in its life... it will be a low budget re-assembly. new gaskets, rings, seals, orings. I've got a ton of "good" used bearings salvaged from other powerheads,...

standard centerhorn seems better on the top end and the single SVS is quicker on the low end. You can put ten of each on an engine and it won't help a bit. Even a Holley Dominator if you like. You are restricted by the amount of flow through the reed cages. They will only flow so much through a given size opening.

Man that doesn't look for the back pocket. What broke? Hope Santa brings you a new powerhead. By the way did you kill the grimlins that caused this? Martin

ONE of the best engines they made as far a depedability in many peoples eyes. It is a V-4 X-flow. It is nothing more than a 90HP without oil injection and would be a late 80's engine. It can be made to have a lot more power very easily than the inline merc you traded for. The parts are cheap and plentiful. That is a plus. JMO.....

I would give Eric Simon a call, he knows the 3.0L very well and seems to be very willing to help Scream and Fly members out. Maybe you could send him what you have and he can test it for ya.
Eric Simon "Simon Motorsports" is a supporting vendor for this site and a decent person to deal with.
Otherwise you are at the mercy of your good old local Mercury dealer...OUCH!!!$$$$

Not sure if the limited edition motor came with the mid-bore 225 carbs, but that's the easiest 25 horsepower you will ever gain. Just install the 225 carbs and throttle bodies.

The power head is what holds it all together, The mounts for the cowling bolts to the Powerhead and the powerhead bolts to the mid section.

Hey,
Your fuel system is plumbed wrong..The hose that comes off of the middle of the fuel rail ties into the hose coming down from the regulator.. If you send me your email, I will email you a posting that will show you and explain in detail how to rig a fuel injection system...
Regards,
Steve..

Many opinions on the Vertex.. They seem to work fine in some of the stock classes ( Drag Racing ) turning big RPMS as they come..
I am building 3 Pro Max's this week and I am using Mercury pistons and having Marles top pin. Maybe I see too many destroyed motors to want to take the chance with my customers stuff... $300.00 is IMO a cheap insurance policy . I am at the point I will NOT build ...

Actually for a lot of us, 250+ hp does go 80 mph. My RXP goes 81+ on GPS like many other friends, and my engine is only 1.5 liters. But it is a 4 stroke supercharged engine with 13 lbs boost and a big air to water intercooler. There are quite a few GPRs with 1.3 - 1.4 liter two strokes that are going over 80 mph too ... some with triple pipes are going 85 - 88 mph. Then there are the guys running...

If the heads are painted they could be as large as 41 CC's or as small as 38 CC's if the heads are gold alodine they could be 38 , 26 or 21 CC's...
I'll have to go down and confirm your numbers on the casting to give you an exact CC..
Information to come in a bit!

Perfect for that size of boat, Up the mains a couple sizes, run 92-93-94 octane and 20* timing has been safe for me. New water pump impeller EVERY year.

On a conventional 2.5 145 lbs is considered by most to be the safe limit. I know there are others that get away with more but the key word is safe
