Spurred on by my lack of knowledge on the subject in Scott's thread and having naff all else to do this pm, thought I would have a play with my close ups to see what was what in a not very scientific way Aim - To find out about focussing distance with close up lenses. Method - +4 close up placed on the front of my 24-120 set at 32mm. On manual focus, the 4 pics were taken ...

Here it is: 50D hands on preview Seems like it might compete directly with Nikon's new D90 rather than the D300. It will be interesting to see what the image quality is like with the new sensor.

Asda have the Gorillapod SLR in for £17, about half price (it's not the Zoom version, ok for small SLR and lens I think). Also they have a full-size tripod for £10. Obviosly basic, but it looks the same as the £30 Jessops ones. I've lost the adjuster handle from my cheapy one, so I'll probably pick one up. always try not to use tripods anyway....

I'm a twat, sorry, last info was for the 500, not the 100! I'd been looking at it last night as I too have a requirement for mrs for birthday coming up and looking at <200 quid. (Must read things properly, that's three in the last two days ) Having now looked at the 100, first thought is the zoom range isn't huge at 28-100 but a lot of cameras in that range are 35-xxx so better wide ...

As above, I have an old Fuji S5000 , and after seeing the pics that were being taken by the rest of the SIDC lot, I feel it is time for a change. Whats my best investment for the money. I do not mind buying used, as long as the camera is in excellent condition (ie Ebay purchases ) Thanks in advance.
