Lenny, Do you have a MIDI recording program and MIDI keyboard? If you record what you play, then fix it up in the software, you might learn a lot that way. Obviously, your upright is not MIDI compatible . One thing you could do since you are a trained musician is (temporarily) put pieces of masking tape just above each key with the name of the note on it, until you get used to it. The Piano is really quite accessible for beginning musicians...

Quote: some arrangements appear the same until you play them, when you realise that the rhythms (when played as written) are totally out... That might just be the inflections given by the performer, expression counts for a lot when it comes to really...

It'll be another six weeks until I'm at home with the Piano again, alas, but thanks for your input. To Zanarkand looks like it would be a low level piece - maybe Gr. 3. One last Wish is a bit more complex, and I'd rank it as Gr. 4, whilst This Is Halloween is pretty complicated - possibly Gr. 6. 'Twould be nice to buy the real things, but I'm a poor student, and I don't particularly want to splash out on...

And a request, if I may - this goes out to all the Piano players/musicians/sound engineers who can do what I want... Basically, my problem is that the MIDIs and sheet music available for Casper's Lullaby are quite pathetic. Yeah they sound good when you first hear them, but when you put them next to the real thing their thinness really shows. My request: could anyone make a MIDI out ...

This thread instantly reminded me of going to see Dave Spikey (British comedian) in Manchester earlier on this year. He was talking about the same sort of thing, and held up the song Life by Des'ree as the worst example of random lyrics he'd found: 'I don't want to see a ghost, It's a sight that I fear most I'd rather have a piece of toast And watch the evening news' (Best Dr. Evil ...
