I don't think I missed your point (wherever it ended up being), I was just intrigued by your aside... There is something to what you say though, there are some great villains... On my last reread in SoS, after the red wedding I was just blown away at how much awful stuff has happened to the characters I liked. But then you reach that stretch where Joff, Gregor, Twyin, and a bunch of the folks who've tormented Arya all bite it in...

Didn't Bloodraven appear during a conversation between Jon and some other charater (i'm presuming it was with Aemon Targaryen when he talked about the years that passed by, how he came to the wall, and so on.)

Well, I hadn't considered that possibility. Would explain why nobody has seen him in so long if he was off to Asshai and Yi Ti and other strange lands to learn magics. Then that would a conspiracy of some sorts in the Citadel to hide him while he did this. But I got another feeling from his clandestine-like activities when we finally meet him in AFFC. And, thanks Illifer for correcting the spelling: It is Marwyn .

Well yes. Most people's judgments of Cat seem to based on that one episode, and yet they don't really consider what just happened. Her little boy just fell and is for all intents and purposes dead (remember it's only through the three-eyed bird that Bran comes back). Re: Jaqen H'ghar I think Varys is just a really great make-up artist. Wasn't he a part of a travelling mummer's show or something? Aren't mummers the ASOIAF equivalent of actors? I'm not being sarcastic with my questions..my memory is getting rusty. I should do a reread like you. Also, Varys' position doesn't really seem like a Faceless Man's style. Magic just wouldn't fit within the world so far....
