What was the last movie you saw?...

Watched Children Of The Damned last night. I got the impression that the writers weren't sure where to go with this one. Not nearly as good as its predecessor but I've seen worse ( much worse).

Apparently I'm not the only one to notice the resemblance of the Avatar story to the Poul Anderson work from the 1950s. Is James Cameron’s AVATAR a Ripoff of Writer Poul Anderson | GeekTyrant The illustration of the magazine containing the Anderson story (looks like Kelly Freas work) is the one I had when I first read it in my early teens. I know I won't be able to not see this movie, whether it lives up to its hype or not.

I'm with you on the Alien films - 2 is a very different film to the first, but great in its own right - much like Terminator 1 & 2. Don't think I've ever seem the original "The Thing", must add it to my ever growing to watch list. And the 70's version of Bodysnatchers creeped the hell out of me.

Another fan of 'Re-invasion' of the Bodysnatchers signing in. I particularly liked all the extraneous chase sequences - seemed to belong to a whole different film going on somewhere else. All depends on which film you watched. A couple of SFF films you want to avoid like the plague are: The 27th Day. Ugh, just ugh. The Flight That Disappeared (though I think Edmund Cooper might have seen this and salvaged a few genuinely good ideas).

I know what you mean about 2012 , Db, and had it been a little shorter I could've kept that happy warm feeling I got from seeing something so ridiculous and cheesy (not that I 'm sure they meant it that way). The special effects were outlandish but fabulous. The acting was a bit horrid, and it starred John Cusack, so I am blaming the writers and director. obviously it wasn't Cusack's fault, because I love him. It felt like...

Terminator Salvation - Awesomely awesome, Drag me to hell - really weird and disgusting movie, Inkheart - decent movie but not much SFX, good story and idea though.

Watchmen and The Knowing compete in my mind as two of the most awful sci-fi films ever. Both too dreadful for words. One's up its own **** and the other doesn't know if it wants to be an alien film or a religious film.

Yes, all the kids did a rather good job there, especially Martin Stephens (David), not to mention George Sanders' performance. As a side note, there is a little story about those two which you may or may not have heard. It seems that Sanders was very fond of chess, and always looking for someone to have a game with. He was also very good, so he almost invariably won. One day, during a break, he asked the general question, "Does...

Yeah, Spiderman II was average, but I thought the 3rd one was among Marvel's better efforts (except for the Sandman's size at one point; I don't ever remember him getting that big in the comic book). Venom, in particular, was handled very well, if one overlooks some of the usual liberties a movie has to take (where the story unfolds over many issues in the comic book). Movies I'd avoid? -...

Anyone else fond of Miami's most effective serial killer? I absolutely love this series. It's just about the only fiction (politics aside) I watch on TV now. So refreshing, great acting, plot and although I don't think it's always meant to be, funny. Any other fans? Any thoughts?

OK I can be picky but it seems to me they go over the top in places. We only have to insert an ion pulse into a laser beam and a 'tracer' will result. Similar to the way they can do it it with fluorescent tubes in shop windows (OK that's not how it's actually done but it sounded feasible) Star Trek Romulans seem to have had a little genetic engineering too. hah yes I caught the first series last year I think it started. I love it but as an adult I get a little tired of every single tv show being aimed for the widest possible audience It's based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris although it's starting to deviate.
