Never tried that, since if its on the local you're usually at the mercy of the local channels whims. I do know that if the local station cuts away from a game, that it ends up getting turned on on the ST channel. Never timed it to see if its instant, a few minutes later or whenever someone notices and pushes a button. But dont know about lack of local coverage on the front end. I always watch sports time delayed to avoid the commercials.

You are using only your TV's built-in speakers on all of your tests? I would try other cables, such as using the optical output as suggested by jtwex. Or perhaps a different HDMI cable. Have you tested your TV's HDMI inputs using other devices, like a DVD or Blu-Ray player? If those work properly then you've proven your TV's HDMI connector is working properly, and that the HDMI cable works (given you test the same cable).

Well, things finally got straightened out after I sent an email to address posted a few messages back. Someone called me back, and they were extremely apologetic. It was kind of refreshing to talk to someone who did not appear to be reading from a script. The most amazing part was, even though three different CSRs told me that the recovery kit had been shipped to retrieve the old receiver, when I asked this person to check on it she said...

Try switching surround sound modes and see if that doesn't help you recover the dialog.

Do you have the protection plan? If yes, replacement will be free. If no - maybe free due to age of receiver or maybe not.
If a tech comes out to replace it, they will have to bring the old box back with them. If they mail a box to you, they may or may not want the hughes box back. I wouldn't throw it away until you know for sure which avenue you'll be travelling.

I hope they don't add any channel now. Picture quality is clearly getting worse recently. The new bird will allow many new channels without sacrificing quality. 2nd quarter 2010 is when I expect new channels.

sounds like a bad receiver... it shouldnt be the cable, because the power inserter is on this line, if it was the cable then your sd box would be acting the same... if i rolled to the s/c i woulda replaced the box and checked terminators.

DirecTV is still working on getting the Channels I Receive list working correctly.
What you need to do is use a Favorites list with only the channels you want to surf. And then select that list for display in the Guide.

It actually IS compatable with the HR23's as well - have some clients with them & it works great.
Not sure what you mean by your last question - but it gets all the of the OTA channels in your market, as long as you can receive the signal in your particular location, as well as if it's been mapped in the guide data provided to D* by Tribune Media Services.
