Hi Amy, I'm a little confused, are you trying to create a new picklist field on the Contact record, or update an existing one? Is this a new Salesforce.Org that you're setting up, or an existing one that you've inherited from a previous Administrator? Which edition of Salesforce are you using?

Passwords in SFDC are locked down, you can't access them even with Admin Permissions.
