Then you can at least see what is happenning when it starts to trailer hitch on you. But that's just me. And I only believe in replacing parts because they need to be replaced or for preventive maintanance... Yes I'm lazzy... but my vehicles start as...

rich fuel mixture, bad 02 sensor, bad cat too much fuel can eventually clog up a cat or render it useless at the least. 02 sensor can be the cause of these every time i replace an 02 sensor fuel mileage increases and the exhaust fumes dont burn your eyes anymore. so..

the code for the air injection doesnt harm anything, but if you are looking to sell it, it definetly needs to be off. either send the PCM to Wait4Me, or pull the air pump and inspect and bench test it. the thread on how to do that is here.

The dying cat sound is probably the coolant getting on your belt causing it to slip. As for the coolant leak I would take it some place and get the cooling system pressure checked to pin point the leak.

When is the last time you replaced any of the basic tune-up components? Clogged air filter, fuel filter, exhaust leaks, bad fuel pressure regulator, clogged injectors, worn out spark plugs, corroded cap and rotor, and bad wires can all lead to decreased fuel mileage and possibly not set off codes. How is the engine running? Is it more sluggish, harder to start, etc? The 1998's have the old ...

those types of plugs are only a temporary fix, you'll need the pan to either be heli-coiled,drilled and tapped for bigger threads or get a different pan.

The poor fuel millage is probably being caused by worn out oxygen sensors, pre and after the cat. At least that was the problem with my 95 vortec. As far as the jumping idle, i would look for vacuum leaks, especially from the brake booster itself. I have seen s10s leak from the brake booster causing all kind of vacumm related issues. Its also a possibility that the transmission is slipping in ...

I always tell people to run whatever it says in the owners manual or oil fill cap, but personally I run 10W-30 in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter. That is just what I was taught with my father's mentality growing up. I think 10W-30 will work fine in these engines, especially with higher miles since it is a little thicker. Things get a little more critical with newer style engines that ...
