spooning a rear wheel off
Published (2009-12-30 18:33:00)
i'm working on changing out the rear tire on my '98. i spooned off the first bead without any real problems.(towards the brake disk-). but i'm running into problems trying to get the second bead over the rim. and so far it looks like the wheel is winning. is there a secret to getting it off? i only own two tire levers and have seen on a tire changing site that some bikes require three- is the 1100 such a bike? i'm planning...

Thanks for all the replies. I'll just go with the BT-021s then. I was just curious about the bias ply tires since I didn't really have any experience with them. Can't wait to remove the crap dunlops that are on it now. Never have liked dunlops on any bike I have owned. Just don't like the feel of them (no matter what type tire/bike)

Rear Tire Size

Thanks for the reply; curious about how ABS would be affected, as well as speedo accuracy. I liked the 180 tire on my Valk, Beemer R1150RT, and Blackbird. If ABS is not affected I would consider that; when I had my Valk I was probably the first person up here to install a car tire on it, and the new owner just loves it.

Oh. Let me be clear. I think the radials feel much better than the bias ply. I have used 8 STorms, 2 Z-6 (which I didn't like) 3 ME 880 (High Milers, I didn't particularly like, particularly when worn) and a worn out, mis matched pair that came on the bike. I did do some milage on the ME 880/STorm combo (both ends). Once more for my last response on a tire thread. I LIKE THE STORMS BEST, WELL ENOUGH THAT I HAVE USED 8 OF THEM. I...

Typical choices for radials include Avon & Metzler. Check this thread. I've used both and prefer the Metzler Z6's. I see about 8k to 10k miles on a rear. Both feel great on dry or wet pavement.

The tires I have done by hand required at least 3. Get 4 if you can and the longer the better. Also use lots of lube. Dish soap/water in a spray bottle works well. Does someone in your area have a cyclehill? You can use mine but it might be a bit of a drive for you.
