An ominous trend to watch: Corporate loan defaults Floyd Norris, NYT The weak go first, and people take comfort from the very weakness of the fallen. The fact that it is only the weak who are suffering is taken as proof that there is no general problem. That is how it was with the mortgage mess, which is still called the subprime crisis even though it has long since spread. Now there are...

Dunno, ork. Equity performance notwithstanding, I think that the survivors stock prices remain insane. NVR averaged $800/share in the peak bubble year 2005. It was at $600 a couple days ago, for a PE of about 5X 2005 earnings of $700M. Do you think they will ever again repeat that year? Ever?!? TOL's best year ever was $800M. Their market cap today is $4.0B. Still 5X the best bubble year....

Could work. The Chinese solar plays have seen margins hurt by higher shipping and silicon costs, but both of those are moderating. And when Chinese domestic demand occurs, the domestic manufacturers will be heavily favored by the government. The near term headwind is slowing European growth and stubbornly high polysilicon prices. I don't own any Chinese solar, have been following LDK ...

That's America for you. I think it's a toss up at tis point. Reality TVNation Election 2008.

It appears to be from a guy who understands the business. By refining the analysis with the NPAs weighted by using various Loss given default assumptions (0.40 - 0.80 depending on HELOC, first mortgages, cmbs or other) and backing out goodwill he can create a ranking based on prospective equity which would not be possible using only the Texas Ratio. The correlation between the Texas Ratio ...
