The Russian 'system' was extremely bleak a few years ago. A visiting professor that I met, a friend of my father-in-law, said that when he came over one year (1999 maybe?) a loaf of bread was $1. Oblomov; Yet as the blood of our young men and women falls on foreign soil in the defense of freedom, our own Government appears to be leading our country into the pit of socialism How in the hell does DeMint get the idea that this bill is socialism? Do they not understand what socialism is? Corporatism maybe? steve

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their ...

Thanks- I came up with the list on the fly, thinking decade by decade who was on what side of some key issues. An excellent history that I recommend: The Decline of American Liberalism, A.A. Ekirch http://www.amazon.com/Decline-American-Liberalism- Ekirch/dp/0689700695 The "liberalism" of the title is classical liberalism. The book was published in the 60s, so it stops there. It ...

Senator Jim DeMint's speech in the Senate last night: Mr. DeMINT. Mr. President, I have friends and colleagues whom I respect deeply who are on all sides of this bailout issue. One of them just spoke. We all to want do what is right for America, and I believe those who have crafted this plan had pure and noble motives. They want this country to succeed. They want prosperity. I just do not...
