said Allen Salmasi, CEO and president of NextWave, in a statement. "Since the completion of the recent 700 MHz auction, we have received multiple offers for our U.S. spectrum assets." Seems like the demand for spectrum has not been muted by the recent auction of a huge swath of 700Mhz spectrum. The 700 Mhz spectrum was 15 years in the clearing, and required massive infrastructure investments by the incumbents. The readily...

They might well want ice water in Hell, but operators demanding arpu and "price elasticity" and margins from consumers will get them nowhere. Device makes might well want lower arpu and lower margins from the operators. Both will hopefully be in Hell where they deserve to be [Nokia, L M Ericsson and the hagfish guild, Vodafone, Verizon, Nextel, Sprint, Unicom, among others] while consumers enjoy free megabytes at 100 mbps...

Are you saying that JFK wasn't in charge? He was the most in charge president ever. He knew what McNamara was doing and encouraged it, although at times he'd say, "we got to rein in those hard hats".

Google Drops A Nuclear Bomb On Microsoft. And It’s Made of Chrome. [TechCrunch's take] Wow. So you know all those whispers about a Google desktop operating system that never seem to go away? You thought they might with the launch of Android, Google’s mobile OS. But they persisted. And for good reason, because it’s real. In the second half of 2010, Google plans to launch the Google Chrome OS, an operating system designed from the...

the only reason they replaced the PEE Hole battery charger is that Neelie dictated that all phones had to have a MICRO USB cable for charging in the EU. Note this is NOT the present industry standard MINI USB that all of the phones have adopted, but yet another connector the EU wants. I am surprised they did not flip RX and TX like the Japanese did so they could REALLY show off their market protectionism. BTW - the BBERY Tour succumbed to the...

Fourth of July weekend will give Sirius a lot of publicity in America----the young people i.e. 40 and younger can afford the Ipod's and Sirius. Good to see an American satellite company suceed------a little like the Voice of America. mj

This one ...... which is seeing, seeing, seeing .... Chuang Tzu through the eyes of Thomas Merton --- is an invaluable diamond. One of my favourites. The whole shebang here. Securitization? For security against robbers who snatch purses, rifle luggage, and crack safes, One must fasten all property with ropes, lock it up with locks, bolt it with bolts. This (for property owners) is ...

What refrain? Things are bad and getting worse. I see it first hand. Do you know what securitization is? If the little boxes don't look particularly appetizing, pack the contents prettily in a larger box with a nice red ribbon and get someone to stamp it "Grade A" to attract buyers. Close, yes? I think that word "security" is out of place, unless it refers to the state of the ...

Everyone who has found something on the new LWLG website that needs a correction should send their comments directly to Jim Marcelli (contact info below). This should not be done as complaints but as constructive help from those of us who are closely following the company. The new website is a lot better than the single page LWLG had previously. That is lack of competition and misjudgment on what it costs to provide "unlimited" access. So AT&T raised prices because they misjudged on the costs to provide "unlimited access". Or maybe they are simple testing " price elasticity. As carriers test their "price elasticity". The over all costs of Cotton Gin's increase to the consumer. Now the Cotton Gin manufacture's overall ...

PCS, I have changed my opinion on spectrum over the last decade. In 1996, I thought Nextwave hadn't paid too much. It turned out I was right and people subsequently bid 4 times as much for the same spectrum. But then my thinking changed from 1998 onwards towards thinking spectrum is not so valuable as I thought. Now it seems to be in surplus other than in downtown localities. ...

I wouldn't say forced into bankruptcy, I would stay they strategized bankruptcy as legally the best way to maximize their assets as part of a response to the other defaulters and the difficulty in getting investor backing with the money they needed. Continuing with history, when the first defaulters on the spectrum didn't pay, it became a bit like Government Motors - it's tough to compete with a company which gets taxpayer largess. When a competitor has their debts written off, free money provided and a new lease of life, it makes it tough to compete with them. Oh! Good Lord Maurice! You're losing it! This is what it has come ...

The stage is set, spectrum and ATC allocated, so on with the show.
