Just found out that I can replace the front-most tube with a 12AU7 if desired! Cool; they sound better than 12AX7s, anway. I'll put the TFKs in the L/R sockets in positions 2 and 3, and a cryo'd RCA clear-top 12AU7 in the front socket until I can get another Mullard CV4003. I think I will order some backups CV4003s for the PV12 while I am at it...

There's got to be, buy locally if possible. Just Google it. It's best to have advice and set up within driving distance.

I'd agree with those sentiments. In my second system I have a late '70s Thorens which I've owned from new. It has had thousands of hours' use, moved house with me a dozen times, and the motor still runs dead silent. This was a middle budget turntable (under GBP200 at the time), so really it makes you wonder why newer, more upmarket turntables use poorer components. Unless there are simply ...

SACD player recommendation Hi, I'm interested in buying a sacd player in the $150-250 range. My motivation is to get it for the new Nat Cole cds. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will be hooking it up to an Onkyo receiver thats at least twenty years old, will this work? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Lee

Since you already have the power amp and you are concerned with cost, the passive monitor choice is the best route. It'll allow you to buy a much higher quality speaker than you would have in an active format for the same budget. The Reveal is a good speaker. It is a little warm sounding but revealing enough so that it doesn't become too much of an issue. I always recommend that people also...

To Flac or not? That tis the question? I was fustrated when I began ripping a few years back, that there were no options for tagging non compressed files. Looks like things haven't changed much. This seems to be a legacy issue from the days of small expensive storage. Why won't this go away? It seems crazy to have to encode just to get ...

Try finding a spherical stylus for a V15 Type III! Why doesn't Shure simply invest the time to find some Berylium so that they can start making the stylus's again? Especially with the resurgence in the popularity of vinyl, it seems that the V15 is ripe for a comeback!!!

I don't think so. But if I live that long, I probably wouldn't care anyway. By that time, my hearing would have been gone. In any case, I expect new formats to come out and make CDs obsolete. If you like the sound of your CDs, you'll probably have to write them onto a storage drive of some sort. I think music on a storage drive has a better chance of being playable 30 years from now than on ...

That's an inherent 'weakness', aka design feature, of Rega turntables. If you tap on the plinth of most non-suspended turntables in this situation, you will hear something through the speakers. Realistically, unless you listen at volumes considerably beyond the pain threshold, you will not be able to generate sufficient movement of air to simulate tapping on the plinth.
