A very good point and one I will look into tomorrow. It appears to be from the front but I will double check.

Phil, good work! I did say it'd probably be blatantly obvious when I got round to looking though and it was, had about a mile of play in it :P chezz why would I check the rear sus parts, it was the front that was loose :P I will check everything now though! I suspect it was whoever fitted the track rod last, the guy I bought it off says it had a similar problem before and a garage fitted a new track rod and it was ok for a little while...

Only one I can think of is possibly the 200 20v 3b as the box is slightly different (more towards the 3b style and better ratios)

cheers, ill have another look on your thread on fans and get back to you It will be running an aby 20vt with the stock tyoe 85 box and id like to use the s2 hubs (albeit the ones i have are from a 3b) I know the track will be wider, just trying to work out what shafts i can use. Will the aby inner cv's mount on the type 85 box and similarly on the rear? Thanks Gav

[QUOTE=Jolfa; chezz why would I check the rear sus parts, it was the front that was loose I know it was the front...no harm in checking the rears as well. You have a vehicle with only a little history and for peace of mind (30mins)you can check the rears also.

who fitted the Konis Rich? Some people use anti-freeze to lube the shock housing and prevent rust, also does not cause MOT failure if its visible on the strut If it was used at the tiome of fitting the Konis (or before?) this might explain the blue colour? Are you sure the shock was actually leaking? how many miles had they covered? Cheers Alex

Both inner bushings on the front control arms are the same diameter...44.4mm If one is smaller then you probably have the outer metal peice of the old bushing still inside.

Dare I say it but have you considered the implications and costs involved with forrest rallying? It can be, and normally is up to double the costs of asphalt and you cant scrimp on components as they will take a battering in the ruts and undulations of a forrest stage. Sump Guards, alot of strengthening and the ability to do serious repairs is essential. Is this competitively or just every now...

Call Koni, i had a front one go on my GTI fairly quickly. Im the original owner of the kit, but they didnt ask for any verification of this. Was leaking out of the damping nut. They rebuilt it for nothing but shipping to them. Have had no problems since, been like 60k now.
