Brian Sharp
Published (2010-01-05 15:29:00)
It is reported in the Mail tonight of the death of Brian Sharp on New Years Day. He was 74 and played for Barrow between 1959 and 1963. He played 77 games for Barrow and scored 17 tries. 50 of those games were at stand off. He replaced Willie Horne. By reference to Keiths book he also played 2 games at full back, 13 as winger and 12 as centre. I remember him best as a superb centre.

QUOTE (Holty Snr @ Jan 4 2010, 09:56 AM) It's a no brainer. Stick Atkinson and Harrison in at centre and move on. Just my opinion. A fair point in this instance, but what's wrong with a bit of harmless debate? For my own part, I just think, in the spirit of fairness and democracy, that there has to be more than just the two obvious names in the frame otherwise it's not going to be much of a vote! I...

QUOTE (Gaz Martin @ Jan 4 2010, 04:02 PM) Suprised no one has mentioned Ian Bell. If we're voting for players ability i'd like him in my team aswell as the bull. That last shout...........bull, bull, bull!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crowd pleaser but defensively not good and a tad unreliable. In his prime, all Aky had was...

QUOTE (Dave W @ Jan 3 2010, 07:29 PM) As the obvious ones have been suggested, to boost the numbers, I'll throw Adam Hughes's cap into the ring. Although he was only with us for one season - and his appearances were somewhat curtailed by injury - his signing nevertheless represented a significant statement of intent by Des and the BOD. When he did play, he was a superb attacking centre and it could be argued that...

Andreas Bauer

All I can find on Bauer's French venture is that he scored on his debut for Carcassone against Villeneuve. There is also a local newspaper report that doesn't translate well but believe it or not he is quotd as saying that the South of France is a better place to live than Barrow !!!!! Is anybody in email or text contact with him? Would be interesting to see how he is fairing over the channel.

Evening Mail..
Published (2009-12-31 18:12:00)
QUOTE (SRC @ Dec 31 2009, 06:04 PM) I have no problem with AFC getting plenty of publicity for their big games. The fact is that they get far more publicity for the big games than the Raiders do. That is what people grumble about (including myself). Of course people can buy their own car stickers and ribbons, but the point is that the Mail issue them for free to AFC fans. The Raiders have been to 2 finals this season and...

Very sad news , many years ago when i started in the Yard Brian told me and Steve Andrews many a tale about his playing days, me and Steve didn't have many good days watching Barrow R L in the late 80's early 90's so Brians Tales of his palying days and the players he played with i enjoyed and kept saying we'll come good again one day. Great guy and my best wishes go out to Brians Friends ...

How many pages did Barrow RL get for the Grand Final? Not exactly a lot happening at Craven Park at the moment is there? No new signings? no news about ground improvement/development? When there is some news I am sure the Evening Mail will put it into print.

Great stuff Keith. I know you've put a great deal of work into the Development Fund behind the scenes which is appreciated by all us Barrow RL 'nutters'. Is anything going to appear in the Evening Mail ? I would suggest that the FA Cup is well out of the way before attempting to get any coverage. Otherwise, it will almost certainly be lost in amongst a 96 page AFC 'special'....

I think all the Town fans will be just hoping that our team shows a bit more enthusiasm this week SRC. We'll be happy with that. Is the lad Cairns a relation of David Cairns who used to play for Barrow?
