Looking for my first trainer

I had some funky job hours last year that got severely in the way of group rides and riding during daylight hours. It's almost pointless to keep track of trainer miles, but I probably spent about the same amount of time on the road and on my trainer. IMHO, the idea of a "first" trainer seems to imply that you either want to upgrade later or don't think they'll last. Between the KK and Fluid 2, either of those would be...

Used may be a good option, cheap ones can really be a waste of money since the tendency if they don't work well is not to use them.

Could be sugar or low sodium but go get tested. l get dizzy spells basicly everyday from standing up too quickly, lots of athletes get this as well as non athletes from a quick drop then rise in blood pressure, there's only one way to put your mind at ease.

MTB club plus all the testing equipment we need like bod pod, and output testing , VO2max and such so I will get in early January for testing and maybe a trainer for a month to make sure I am training correctly. Thanks for your replies.

Yeah, the $64 seems worth it- two computer license now (smart) and you can easily activate/deactivate from your computer (nice for swapping in a new main rig). Been using it since the early versions- good stuff.

Weight loss while improving power?
Published (2009-12-16 23:18:00)
Thanks for all the responses. I've lost a lot of weight sensibly and slowly in the past, so I have the discipline and knowledge to take care of that. I just didn't want to create totally unreasonable expectations in my head and then be disappointed at my power capabilities leading into racing season. It's a matter of debate whether lactate threshold is a well-defined biological phenomenon.
http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/lactic-acid.html
Watts and associates have noted that: ‘Lactate threshold values will differ with different durations of incremental (test) steps. The criteria used to determine the lactate threshold will affect the threshold value. Lactate threshold values are largely a...

Cycleops Fluid²
Budget trainers, especially with magnetic resistance, are not really a bargain. Loud and unnatural feeling with either a trigger actuated cable hanging off the bars or you have to get off to switch the resistance. Either get a used Fluid² or save your pennies for a new Fluid². Solid, great design and oil leakage issues were resolved a long time ago.

I think it depends on experience on the rollers, roller size, overall strength, and what you're planning on doing. To me, if you need a fork stand, you might as well use a trainer. I'm comfortable doing some intervals on the rollers, but if I'm doing something with high resistance and low cadence, I'd rather be on the trainer. If I'm planning on pushing myself to the breaking point, I'll take ...

I put a scoop of Hammer Perpeteum into whatever I have left in my water bottle and chug that down. Sometimes I have some Hammer Heed in my bottle sometimes plain water.
You will feel a difference when you re-fuel right after a ride...less soreness. I was skeptical but an MD friend said that was valid, so I tried it and now I make a point of taking some kind of fuel on within 15 mins of ...

I don't have the answer, but am interested in the answer, as I've just never understood how loosing fat could have a significant impact to power. When people talk about loosing weight and also power, did they not loose muscle in addition to fat and that's why they lost power? If so, there has to be a way to focus on fat loss without loosing muscle and power.

I would recommend going back and reading about heart rate zones, it also sounds like a LTHR test would be a good idea. I know if I'm working 10-15 beats below my max HR there's a pretty good chance I've gone anaerobic, and I'm not looking to do that this time of year.
Most of my rides now are in zones 1 and 2, for me that can range anywhere from 20-56 beats below my LTHR. 10-15 beats ...

Tell him he is doing "zero" mph on the trainer and dispense a dope slap up side his head for such tomfoolery. Also note zero wind resistance and much lower rolling resistance ect if he persists with this point. Then swap orange degreaser for his chamois cream for wasting your time.

With the bad weather and big base im try to build, I've worked up to 3 hours on Saturdays.
To me it seems no worst than doing 3 hours outside in cold weather.
Movies seem to make the time go faster. I take a break every 30 minutes (refill bottle and take a leak).
The less breaks I take, the faster I finish.
