Here's a post I made a long time ago. I still haven't received any good, objective answers for it. Almost all the answers have fallen into the "he said, or some pro told me that, or my LBS says, or cyclists far more experienced than me told me that..." Anybody got anything besides BS? Why do so many people badmouth / dislike WD 40? I've used it for many years without ill effect. As far as I can tell, nothing I've...

Thomson X2 stem

I have seen two of them begin to crack on the faceplate longitudinally above the attachment bolts. Not sure how widespread of a problem it is but I did notice you can buy replacement faceplates from them which is something I wouldn't think they would offer if people weren't needing them once in a while. They are beautiful stems but I gave up on them, I still use the MTB model though.

wireless electronic shifting

Mektronic was actually pretty cool. The world was just not ready for it back then. I don't see wireless coming anytime soon. I could just see that in the peloton at 2.4Ghz and every time you shift a garage door opens or the other guys bike shifts. Discreet signaling would be a ***** in those tight quarters I think.

Dish detergent. WD40,,,and Triflow..and rubbing alcohol. Mountain Bikers can use the dry railroad lubricants all they want to..and flip their bikes over onto their computer face to change a flat.

I'm mixed race (black father, italian/polish mother). Living in NYC, everybody thinks I'm Boricua, especially the Hispanic community here. The same thing happened to me growing up in Buffalo. It makes for pretty "interesting" situations when I have Spanish spoken to me and I don't understand. Also, I have a very good friend who's hardcore into cycling, he's Puerto Rican and Panamanian (although he's not...

I think there's another thread about this same topic last month, but look at cateye's line. Particularly the strada. You can't go wrong with cateye.
Stay away from VDO. Most unreliable POS on the market. I had to switch out my VDO back to cateye, because I could always count on VDO resetting itself once a month while I was on some epic climb, losing all my info. It didn't matter how ...

It's a hundred time worse when its wet, but even an occasional wet area can wreak havoc, when its dry but you hit a melting spot for example-its not the frame as much as the components, you can wipe the frame down and get that done quickly, the RD and the cranks and BB, brakes and HS area need some time and you should be diligent, because rust can set in quickly

I always wear my helmet when on the bike.
If you haven't got anything to lose, then you probably don't need one.

lay it on the left side with the left pedal at 4 oclock..that will keep the
left chainstay out of the dirt. If it is really a problem put your 100
dollar helmet under it.

I'm not here to flame and you should certainly spend your money as you please. I am on board with buying good gear, but I will jump ship when I get asked to pay club dues for exclusivity. When I got their 'Rapha rides Norddal' catalog in the mail the other day, I thought the Abercrombie and Fitch teen department went for a ride in the rain and let some hipster do a photo shoot.
All nice ...

If you wear a quality liner I think some simple neoprene gloves from a lot of places work ok at that temperature.
Cycling specific but pricey the Assos early winter is very nicely made. Wearing it with/without a liner it covers a pretty wide range. I don't however recommend the Assos liners unless you get a good deal on the whole package.

Ultegra hubs are virtually silent—it's as if there are no pawls at all. Can't help with the color preference.

You could just go to your normal shop and give them the business by purchasing the tools need for the freewheel installation. Rim Tape, and Tire swap isn't hard and its a good idea to practice that part yourself so you can fix a flat yourself.
You do need special tools for the freewheel part but I say take it to your normal shop, and if you want you can alway grab some other things at the ...
