i use a hydration pack for any ride that's longer than 2 hours and i know water stops will be questionable. for my 83mile ride(Chatsworth-to-SantaBarbara) my group and i can usually make do with only two stops, usually nature breaks or feed-zone breaks. a couple months ago i used four(4) big water bottles and almost 4/5 of the hydration pack. it was sorta hot, but really, really dry...

This is getting stupid and expensive. I am looking for a new pair of road shoes. I am about to send back my third pair of shoes that do not fit properly. What I have been riding in for 2 years is a pair of Adidas that are size 442/3 euro. I will stick with euro sizing because this is what seems to be the standard for euro shoes. I have tried and returned: Diadora size 45, too short ...

Has anyone ever bought from bikesonline.com before? I searched around and can't seem to find any feedback on them-- which seems strange. They have some handlebars in my size and I want to make sure they're legit before ordering.

I just purchased a new pair of Specialized Pro Bibs and wore it once on a century ride. (about 6 hours). I noticed that the inner thigh fabric is already starting to show wear. Is the cause my saddle, the bib fabric or that's just the way it is and I should expect to see wear marks after the first ride? My saddle is the Specialized Toupe 143. Thanks

Yes, there will be less traffic in late fall. Rt 12 is variable with respect to the bike shoulder. We go to Hatteras Island every October and May & always take our bikes. When the winds aren't superstiff, you can definitely enjoy the open road. When it's really blowing, it's another story all together. I'd suggest, depending on what kind of distance you want to do, from Avon south ...

Hi. Whats up with bike weight, really? First, though, Im a very inexperienced rider. My idea of a good bicycle is, you push on the pedal, it goes forward. I call this the watermelon seed effect: you squeeze, its gone! Some motorcycles and tractors are like that: instant go! The bikes of my youth, you pushed on the pedal, they pushed back and thought about it for a while before they ...

Unless your LBS is Performance et al.,I don't think much is going to change with the smaller niche bike shops. All of my LBS's deal exclusive with high-end race bikes (Pinarello, Calfee, BMC, etc.) so I haven't seen out of stock items due to recent converts to the commuting scene, mainly because they're very expensive to start with. You have to take into account that there is a hierarchy of "...

I was driving on the freeway last week and passed a truck that launched a golf ball sized rock at my window. I actually thought it was going through the window. It left a chip, thankfully no crack. I would say this stuff happens all the time when you drive on the road.

What do you guys think? I bought a used bike that came with a Thomson setback seatpost and a 120mm stem. I traded the setback seatpost for a straight thomson seatpost, but now I need to get a new stem. I could buy a new stem for ~$80, but their are lots of stems for almost half the price and look decent. Some are even a bit lighter.

Ok here goes. So here I am riding westbound on 282 (Creek road a certified PA bike route ) about a couple hundred feet east of the Marshall Rd intersection and this happens. I always ride with a mirror attached to my glasses - I see a white van approaching from the rear that is not moving over to give me room, so I move over as close to the edge of the road as possible. There is no...

Baggies on the road are just like a comb-over for a bald guy. It will become painfully obvious to everyone around you that you are ashamed of your arse and are trying to cover it up…but in the end all it does is call attention to the fact that you are ashamed of your arse. ok, I have a problem, if I see a rider ahead of me....I have to chase...a lot like a dog and a car. Yesterday I saw a guy, say maybe a 1/2 mile ahead, I chased for a couple of miles....VERY SLOWLY closing the gap. He knew I was chasing. If there was an ascent at all I was catching up, and descent..he would creep away. FINALLY there was a longer ascent and I caught up..."coming up on ...

It's sad but I'm spending too much money on these. I used one bottle every three weeks or so. I like to apply "directly to the skin" before riding. It's becoming an expensive pre-ride ritual.

As a junior, you are restricted to certain gears. Your bike will need to rollout to 7.93 meters on one revolution of the cranks. Essentially, this is accomplished with a 52x14 setup on a 26" wheel, which I think is a 700c wheel. I agree with the gear restriction, but why not make it 53x14 or 53x15? When I was a junior, we had to use a 52x16 in the 14-15 age group and a 52x15 in the 16-17 age ...
