I'm afraid whoever replaces Selig will be just another puppet of the large market owners instead of acting in the best interest of baseball.

Don't both the NBA and NFL set their cap figures based on having a fixed percentage of league-wide revenue going towards player payroll? Indexing the cap/floor to revenue isn't that hard nor controversial...

The Reds' Bright Spot

From Fangraphs . The opening paragraph: Quote: Say what you will about the Cincinnati Reds, as a team they play air-tight defense. I dont think much has been made of it, but the Redlegs led the National League in UZR with 52 runs saved last season. Just looking at the teams current depth chart , they might possibly improve on last years mark. This isnt to say their squeaky clean glovework is going to somehow launch them into contention...

Quote: After commercial, the next caller asked Marty about a possible trade where you trade Cordero, Alonso, Maloney and either Dickerson or Stubbs for nothing so you free up Cordero’s salary and go after a legitimate leadoff hitter or cleanup hitter. (Oh, where do they get these people?) Marty said that’s a stretch and he isn’t the first person to suggest trading Cordero and his “$15M salary”...

Re: Pushing For A Minimum Payroll Threshold
I know the odds of us moving Phillips to SS are slim, but I'd love to see us trade for Uggla and move Phillips to SS. Uggs has solid OBP and good pop. Defense isn't good, which would be thing that would stop us from making this move.

Say what you want, but teams that surprise by contending generally do it with preventing runs than creating runs.
It's easier to luck out with a few offensive guys that hoping a porous pitching staff and defense suddenly steps it up.

Jeter might then be considered one of the great second basemen of all times....

Re: Reds All Time Leaders by Position (Sporcle)
I got 32, and left out several contemporary guys (last 20 years), a couple of them obvious. The hardest position might have been right field. I didn't make much of an attempt at the DH position.

This should pretty much stop everyone from always saying "Why are the Reds the only ones that sign crap like Taveras and Patterson every year? No one else would touch that crap"
It happens. Every team signs these players. These are the two best teams in the NL fighting for Manos de Oros, who's manos are no longer oros.

There are some clips out on YouTube, one put up last March of of a fan's filming on Photo Day, clippy from a Kodak camera. There are also some clips of the Beatles playing there in 1966 (a doubleheader for them, rained out on Saturday here, played Crosley Sunday a.m., flew to St. Louis to play old old Busch) and more of the 1970 Midsummer Music Festival from June of 1970 (not sure how that ...
