Hi! Another tip that fits here. For freebies and coupons sign up at Betty Crocker, General Mills, Pillsbury etc. Oh and go to kraft. Be sure and sign up for Food and Family. It is a magazine that send out every two months. Good recipes and they will also send you either free samples or coupons for free stuff. This month was thin crisp triscuits, sent one get one free coupon and also a dollar off coupon. Oh right now go to nabiscocrackers.com...

I suppose the altitude could have affected the potatoes, since water boils at a lower temp. I'm thinking maybe it was the variety of potatoe or the large size of the pieces. Don't know, frankly don't care. I just won't do it again.

They will definitely last longer and better if you put them in to FoodSaver bags and removed the air. Popcicles do get freezer burn otherwise and will pick up that freezer taste if not protected. You might also considered the Reynolds or Ziplock vacuum bags that have zippered openings so that you can get one out and then reseal without a hassle.

Since this post has been resurrected, I'd like to add a tip: If you ever do online shopping, make sure you sign up for mypoints.com! You earn points everytime you shop online (I know I've increased my online shopping when gas prices went up). You then redeem those points for gift cards of your choice (to national companies/restaurants, etc). You also earn points for doing surveys, signing up for online services, etc. Any time I plan...

Need some Xmas Ideas and Help

Okay so Black Friday approaches and while I did get a lot done after Xmas last year for the kids I am not feeling so good about the parents, inlaws, grandparents, etc. For the past four or five years I have done a gift bag or basket with homemade decorations from the kids then a food type gift from the whole family. It comes down to I am out of ideas. I am not at all creative when it comes to crafting and I am having a hard time figuring out...

Jean in Alvin wrote: I spent $166 at the store, this weekend, for all of the fancy Thanksgiving trimmings, 9lb turkey, baking goods, cat food, 2 bottles of wine, & One "give away" holiday plastic ware (home made cookies as hostess gifts). It was frivolous, decadent even. I thought about this thread. $166 is more than I would have spent in six weeks when our daughter was a toddler! Funny - our buggy wasn't very full and...

I went to Wal-Mart the other day to get vacuum bags and they were so expensive. Since I have begun to question every purchase, I started to wonder if I could get them cheaper someplace else. I decided to turn to my Zaar friends and see where you guys get yours.

My husband brought home about 15 pounds of cooked, skin-on, chunked, and seasoned potatoes. I will probably make potato soup with about 5 pounds of them, but I need some suggestions for the rest! Things that freeze well would be great, but not necessary. TIA!

Usually when I make quick breads or muffins, I made a double batch to freeze. Lately though, I've noticed that my thawed items are extra moist. Like, too much so. I've been ignoring it, until DH said, "Can't you go online to that recipe site you use and ask?" Well, duh. Yes, I can. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to avoid this? I've had it happen with all kinds of quick breads, ...

I was surprised to find frozen cherry tomatoes in a Bertolli pasta meal I bought. I didn't realize they could be fresh frozen like that. Has anyone ever tried it? I am thinking about trying to recreate some of those bertolli meals for OAMC. I see one here on Zaar. Bertolli Pasta Meal Copycat Has anyone ever tried freezing a meal like this? I figured, hey, they have frozen hash browns, and frozen stew with potatoes is just fine, so I'll pop these par-boiled potatoes into the freezer and have them later. Ooops! When I pulled the bag out and thawed it, there was some water in the bottom of the bag (a warning sign) then I put the potatoes on the cutting board to slice, and what a surprise. They were spongy and water simply squished ...

As I've mentioned before, I have a strong aversion to cooking before breakfast. But I'd like to offer my Thanksgiving houseguests and family a nice breakfast/brunch. And I want to make quiche. What parts can I safely do ahead to minimize the amount of cooking I need to do before my second cup of coffee on Thursday morning? I'm sure I can chop onions and ham. I am sure I can mix the ...

I am boiling potatoes today. We are in the process of moving and my husband decided he didn't want to go to the "family" dinner of 50 people. Is it o.k. to mash them today and put them in the fridge until Thursday? We don't like the ones with cream cheese etc.... I just want to know about plain old mashed potatoes.

I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for a lower price. The lowest price with $20 order is .59. It's at a store which does have slightly higher prices in general. But I guess I could make a very careful list. The store I usually shop has them for .79. Or fresh for 1.29 (I hate to defrost, but I think I will this year). I wish I knew if I should buy one for the freezer. Piggly Wiggly .59 ...
