Sonys exploded?
Dayton reference series are great for the $. You should match the woofer to the cabinet, but anything should sound better than the Sonys. You can find
Polk Audio for pretty cheap too.
Oh, and tell your friend to lower the volume or get cleaner power.

ha-ha!
Yeah Musician's Fiend has been going downhill for a while now. Every order I've had with them since the
early 90's has had at least one problem. They somehow forgot an entire order once, didn't communicate at all to me about it, and in the end blaimed some credit card company even though I used PAYPAL. Complaining doesn't work and it's a waste of time trying to get anything resolved....

I had an OLD Jensen 15" loudspeaker, think Motorola tube amp mono days. I put it in an infinite baffle until it totally gave up the motor.

I'd recommend getting them as close to each other as feasible. Don't forget to round off your port radiuses and the
baffle edges at least. GL.
Sorry one more thing...Have you thought about making a ...

x2, old pioneer amps
from the 70's will usually run 4ohm speakers, I like to get 2-sets of car audio speakers and wire them in series so they are 8ohm, then no worries.
