Vacuum leak on 88 2.9
Published (2009-11-09 17:30:00)
Not real fluent with the EGR systems, but the EVR will vent to the atmosphere when it's off. I suppose if there were still vacuum between that and the EGR valve, it could be possible, but 5 seconds seems like a lot of time for that to bleed off. Here is some more info on it - good site: http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=43 Pete

Vacuum leak on 88 2.9
Published (2009-11-09 19:01:00)
Thanks for the link. Lots of good info. I have studied it and that is the part I'm talking about. It says when the EVR is off both ports will vent slightly. I'm not sure what that means. Is venting the same as a vacuum leak? Does it mean that the vacuum port will loose vacuum when it is off? Is that what I'm hearing? Also this rig doesn't have the vss senor hooked up which tracks your speed and I have always wondered what...

It's a 2 minute test at your local auto parts store to confirm the alternator is failing.

well, it would go back down, the pump kicks on to pressurize the system when you turn the key on, but if you don't crank the engine or start it, the pump shuts back down and the pressure bleeds off.

Radiator swap.
Published (2009-11-02 11:13:00)
I'm running a 91 explorer AC Radiator and one thing i didn't grab was the fan scroud for the 4.0 radiator. get one. it makes a difference. i went threw two fan clutches before i realized the 2.9L scroud was too tall and was making the clutch work to h ard and burnt it up.

As in, you bought a new alternator and it's doing this? If so, take it back and get a replacement! It sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator is dead.

You need to replace the 2.9 engine harness with the 4.0 harness and computer. Then splice it in with the body harness for the proper power and such. I did the swap using a haynes and chiltons manual for the wiring diagrams. Your driveshaft length is fine but the tranny will not live behind a 4.0, you're lucky since you have an automatic that both the 4.0 5 speed and auto are the same length as ...

JBA makes headers for it and another outfit makes a cam, I forget which one, comp cam or somebody. you can port the heads and intake a long with a little higher compression pistons will wake it up. I think the 2.9 runs better than the 3.0 from the get go anyway. __________________ 2009 ranger 4x4 FX4 oof/road, 5-speed 2008 ...

if its a 2.9l, the crossbar of the SuicideDoors x-member will have to be cut off/ modified due to the crossbar hitting the y-pipe. check out Gravity-werx. they offer a radius arm relocator that is two individual brackets, or just cut the SuicideDoors one apart. they will both work the same.
