How many miles are on the motor? And did you do a compression test? That might tell you wether its worth a rebuild. If you have a 1996-2001 You can do a turbo swap rather easily. Since your rebuilding, turbo parts are just a little more that N/A parts.

AC - Valve seats are hardened material, and no they can't be welded, only replaced if replacements are available. Internal corrosion is why you don't run straight water in an engine even when it's not a cold climate - while antifreeze never loses it's ability to protect against freezing, the corrosion protection still needs to be refreshed annually. Maverick, that sounds like a good price for a ready to go head.

I'm probably going to buy a reman head from Dover out of Atlanta. I called them and they have some for $300.

Are you sure the clicking isn't coming from the starter? If it's like a grinding noise on the right side of your engine it's most likely the starter is slipping. EDIT: Nevermind I didn't see you said it's just a click. Sorry

Blueman, yeah, it was a really bad idea to fill it with water and forget to get antifreeze back in after flushing it . It was turning the antifreeze brown at the time so I didn't replacing the coolant as it mixed with oil. Then it froze after the first freeze. So now I've got a busted freeze plug. I'll probably going to need to get a reman head too since it overheated earlier this year. I've got antifreeze now, $9 a gallon....

Try running the truck w/o the rad cap on it for a while to see if there is any air pockets in the system. I know on my wife's car there was air in the line when she got a new heater core put in and it wouldn't even work until we got it out.

I just took the head off my truck today. I'd been working on it for the last few days and the #1 cylinder has the same size hairline crack as your #3 cylinder. But in my case there was no visible rust on the pistons, only oil. One of the #1 cylinder spark plugs had a smashed electrode, there is now a 1/2" gap. And I had a #4 cylinder spark plug coated with oil inside the cylinder and onto the ...

What finally cured it for my 2001 with the 2.5 was a new alternator and battery. Read here: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...d.php?t=257 651 Initially I thought it was just a bad battery not flowing enough current. But others chimed in that it could have been a faulty alternator. Read on - it's instructive. Better yet, the symptoms haven't returned in over a month's worth of ...
