Slash 4x4 PLATINUM EDITION
Published (2009-12-11 15:49:00)
i have a serious question here. what's the point of aluminum c-hubs, steering blocks and hub carriers? in almost 13 years in the hobby iv never broken any of these parts. i only know 1 guy who's broken a steering block. these don't seem like parts that need to be aluminum for durability sake. so what's the point? wouldn't it be better to make those parts out of graphite or a carbon composite to save the weight?

Well put Grizz, I noticed that the Associated stuff seems to be shaft driven, and your Tamiya is belt. Do you think the belt driven car has the advantage, or are they pretty equal, depending on set-up? Almost seems to me like belt might be the way to go, as the rotation of everything is parallel to the wheels instead of perpendicular like with the shaft. That's one of the reasons they made front wheel drive cars, with the motor in the...

Honestly, I think the whole shaft vs. belt debate is much ado about nothing. Even though the shaft drives may be a WEE bit more efficient, the vast majority of us won't be able to tell(much like those tiny differences in older matched battery packs, those few hundredths of a volt might be better, but if a driver missed a single corner entry or brushed a wall once, that tiny advantage would be completely lost). But there ARE differences in...

If that was aimed at it, I've already got it covered with a brushless Slash, a 2.2 crawler, and a Tamiya Mini Cooper

Where to start.....
The short course trucks are the big thing right now, lots of tracks running a box stock class with the Slash. I am running an Associated SC10 and lovin it. I like the SC10 because it shares a majority of it's parts with the T4, so replacement and hop up parts are plentiful. Lots of stuff available for Slash also. In my opinion, brushless motors and lipo batteries are the ...

The hyper 7 looks like a nice bu ggy. I was looking at getting one when I decided to get my first 1/8 buggy. I was trying to decide between the Hyper 7 or the OFNA PICCO Off-Road buggy. I decided to go with the picco and I love it.

Well, as with any class of racing, the best car to get will depend on what kind of parts support is available for it near you, & whar cars you can get local help setting up. You will see a number of TC3's & TC4's in VTA racing, but you'll also see some older XRays, HPI's, Schumachers, new & old Tamiyas, etc. And all of them can be very competitive when set up right, but if you break something(& ...
