Grinding noise from transmission...

No the starter has nothing to do with your battery not staying charged. Take your battery into the local Napa and have it tested. If it is good then take your Alternator in and have it tested.

Wiring Harness swap
Published (2009-11-26 22:14:00)
i have done this when i swapped an SE engine into a 12A car (i have the thread documenting this here: http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=822222 ). the dash will need to be removed if you intend to replace the entire harness as the harness snakes behind the dash and over to the ecu...not to mention to the heater controls steering coulmn etc.. this is no easy task for the meek and requires no less than a day to perform. i would pull the...

Raising compression ratios?
Published (2009-11-26 02:03:00)
I would say yes its possible, but its not plausible. Automakers don't design things to be half ass. When you think about how far Mazda brought the rotary engine from its original form to being reliable and usable, there's probably a reason for the way they shaped the rotors. Considering the cost this would have among other things like time, I'd say leave this alone. There's better ways to gain 10hp than messing with such a...

Coolant leak in odd place
Published (2009-11-24 10:23:00)
I'm with these guys Rob, I'm betting on the hoses to the bee hive. Even if you recently replaced them, there might be a loose connection somewhere. If you haven't done this already, I'd recommend a good degreasing (engine degreaser, autozone) and hot detergent wash (dish detergent, followed by a good hosing) of the entire area (do the whole engine bay while you are at it, clean bays are totally cool). This will make the...

Coolant leak in odd place
Published (2009-11-24 20:14:00)
If you pull that rubber plug, nothing should come out. If a bunch of coolant poors out, then the problem is at the back of the engine (freeze plug for example). Hopefully it is just a leaky hose and the coolant is running down there and it is just looking like it is leaking from there. Leaks can be tricky that way.

Raising compression ratios?
Published (2009-11-26 04:08:00)
I looked it up and it says that you can swap directly, but it's recommended that you machine to accept 2nd Gen apex seals, as the RENESIS uses thinner seals because there is less of a chance of apex seal failure without the seal passing over a peripheral exhaust port. So when you install them in an engine with the peripheral port, they are less durable. The side seals are also a little different, but will work.

S5 alternator, now dummy lights...
Published (2009-11-28 20:33:00)
Must mean the alternator is bad. I'll yank it off and have my parts guys check it. Maybe they can figure out the operation of the WB wire. It definitely grounds when the alt is charging. I fired it up without the WB wire. Used a test light and it turns on connected to 12v.

The throw out bearing is probably failing. By the way this belongs in the "Technical" section?
Time to tear into it and replace all of the clutch components. Do a search with the term(s) Clutch to see what all is recommended during this procedure. Can do a advanced search with my name as I have posted in many of these threads. Research it as posts not as threads.

Looks like you're off to a good start, Since it seems like the hot debate with this swap, where did you end up placing the studs? Looks like your placing the front one about an inch behind the stock FB stud?
I'll be watching this thread, as I have been planning on doing this swap for quite some time...

Jump the lead coil to positve side off Batt. dismantal ignition tumbler assy from steering column, then make a small jumper wire to jump contact points on the back side of ignition tumbler assy. ( this is your "key") i think yellow and black wires ; ) when you make contact with both colors with jumper wire "key" the engine will turn over.

I am going to be doing a clutch job soon on my GSL-SE 13B powered GSL. I have the stock S3 13B 23 pound flywheel (a spare one that is gonig in the car to replace a cracked one that's in there now). I have access to a lathe at school and I was going to resurface it about 16 thousandths of an inch on friction surface. I was wondering if this was a good idea, or if I should ...

This guy sells the replacement lower panels - gotta be cheaper than having a custom fit piece cut/shaped to replace yours. Likely rust hole is the beginning - probably more of the panel is weakened and will need to be chopped. I bought a set of these - great quality. You can buy which ever panel you need, he makes several. Was a good price even tho from UK, shipping and all- worth...

Is it a squeaking or grinding noise?
When does it do it?

I have noticed Im getting a small amount of coolant dripping from just behind the oil pan. It is collecting on the flat surface just behind the oil pan and to the front of the starter.
Can someone tell me what this is and how to fix it?
Can of stop leak maybe?

Welcome to winter.
These cars were designed to always start choked; they automatically release it if it's not necessary.
You can push the choke in by hand to lower the rpm to about 2000 right after it starts; it won't warm up as fast but it will be somewhat quieter.
Or you could rethink your muffler choices if you need the car to be quieter in your neighborhood.

On my GSL-SE with P/S. I can't seem to get the housing off the shaft. Does the housing just slide apart? It seems like it should, but I can't get it to do that. Seems like a really tight fit and maybe I'm doing it wrong. Doesn't look like the shaft comes out of the bottom end either. There's some kind of bearing there, and the end of the housing has chiseled-in tabs that ...

I am certainly no expert, but it sounds like bad news to me. Any sort of overheating if not caught immediately on a rotary can do some damage. I don't have any experience with what you are describing, but I would be very very careful with it until you have it figured out. Good luck
