Yes - the less tread you have, the more heat cycles are likely in the tire and the compound, not necessarily the thread, is what is going to affect grip.

I'm not positive but there might be a how to that was put together but taken down for obvious reasons. I know Och knows how to do it but he might be able to send you that how to if it still exists.

The very first thing u need to do is get rid of the lowering kit.
What you'll almost definitely need for that:
Damper
Rearsets
Tank Sliders ($110 from Traxxion Dynamics - save ur bike from fire)
Good tires
Track Day money.
If you want an extremely well set up bike, try to get suspension first. it's expensive, but so very worth it.
