i guess the idea is pretty sound... i mean Yamaha made the SZR 660 by stuffing their 659cc single into a TZR frame (essentially) and it turned out pretty well (but ugly)

try to jump start bike from vehicle battery (car not running)...if it likes
the available battery supply then probably the battery is bad....this is a
quick test without needing any amp testing tools or specs....if it still
wont start with more available 12 volt supply then probably starter
problems..

In the second picture,
that looks like the crankcase breather hose to me.
If it is you need it reconnected to your crankcase.
1,You can either leave it standard, i.e conneted where it is and to the crankcase.
2, you can reconnect it to the crankcase, disconnect it from the airbox and plug the hole in the airbox. Then install a Krankvent on the end that you have just removed from the airbox...

Any tips on removing the lower spring seats?
I've disassembled my 04 R1 5 valve head and the lower spring seats don't want to come out. I suppose it's from the oil between the seat and the head. I've tried drenching it in contact cleaner and that got a couple of them. I've also tried a couple of magnets with no luck. Any tips? Thanks

You're going to want to lower the front as well so you don't throw off the handling. You sure you need 1 1/2 inches? That's quite a bit and I don't think you'll want to lower the front that much. Your best bet is to get an adjustable lowering link. Check out the following:

I lowered my 05 about 2" in the rear and about a inch in the front....07 08 I would most likely be similar......google sport bike and there wil be many websites that can answer your question on whats available for what ever year you decide on...
