I've never had a drop out in 8 years on my Da88... The beatles yellow submarine dvd was compiled using 2 of these in sync, with modified digital electronics.

I know that some of the guys over at Universal Studios liked the Fuji double coated tapes. You got the high output from the metal evaporated layer, plus the long life of the powder coating. When you are dubbing a flick, you may be fast forwarding and re-winding hundreds of times on a tape. The Fuji tapes stood up to it. Sony tapes could fall apart. The modified DA-88's (adapted to -20dbfs for SMPTE standard) were only used for a couple of...

I disagree with ya Chris as these can be very touchy. I moved one with me when we moved to Hawaii. We were a mile as the crow flies from the ocean and the aluminum head was pitted in a couple years. It was thrown in the dump. They can be real touchy to dust also. And expensive to have others repair. If anyone has the capabilities to keep these going i would be interested in contacting them.

Which is strange b/c vinyl sales seem to be going up consistently each year. But I guess these models are DJ decks.

Another sign that the digital era is upon us. Technics by Panasonic has announced the end of their turntable production. See http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/intl...chnics_is_dead for the story.

I recently acquired a Tate 101A unit. It is old but in good cosmetic shape. However, and here is my challenge, I have no idea who on earth could service this unit. Perhaps it needs some restoration work. I have no way to tell and would need an expert to help me out. Also, I understand that there are some recommended modifications that would be beneficial. I believe the the gentelman that ...

I don't know which one would be best but I would use either the Thorens or Empire. For matrix encoded discs (SQ, QS, EV), you don't need to do anything as these will play fine with any good stereo equipment. Why? There are no ultra-sonic frequencies to be traced. It is all in the audible range. For CD-4, you need to be sure that the wiring is very low capacitance so that the ultra-sonic ...

I have no idea what a fair price for the Sansui would be. But, the most you could have possibly overpaid is $30, a couple of bucks more than one of the King Crimson DVD-As. How could anyone pass? Enjoy the restoration!

If the 2020 has those board feed-throughs, you should resolder all of them. There's good chance that it will cure your problem. Both of my 2050s had intermittant drop outs, etc. when I first got them and doing the above mentioned thing fixed them both. Some will say to completely remove the old solder and pins and replace with new wire and use new solder but I just put some flux on them ...
