Desi, Don't put it in the dishwasher, put it in the sink and soak it in some very warm sudsy water for about an hour! I did that in my bathroom sink so that I could still use my kitchen sink. I used some mild shampoo so that it was very sudsy! It is better than using the dishwasher! Then, just fill the sink a few times with clear water and put it in. I feel very lucky with this purchase. I've just received my third set and everyone has worked perfectly the first time. I just love these for "stocking stuffer" types of gifts! And the colors are great! Super quality item! (Since so many seemed to have had problems installing the batteries correctly, I'm "pre-installing" them for those that are gifts.)
