Anyone quit a job for mental...

I think the point is though, that if your mental health is at stake, you need to do what you need to do to get out of that situation and not be so choosy. No one is saying you need to stay there forever. This has been an ongoing issue with Paul for several years now, and why I get what you are saying Words, I think it tends to be a bit enabling for this particular poster.

Guys: How many suits do you own

When I was teaching neurotypical high school students, I always dressed older than my age. I was only about four-five years older than my junior-senior students, so a distinction was important. Now, ten years later, I don't have to make the distinction even though I still teach high school aged students...and most of my students have disabilities that render them very childlike in many ways anyhow. So it's not the typical teen...

PenforPrez and ash14vwb, I hope that you all have better luck than I'm having by staying. I'm so down right now, it's beginning to affect my physical health. I was just in a meeting, unable to concentrate and staring at a calendar, trying to figure out how I could pay my bills from the time I quit this job until my money runs out. I can no longer wait to secure another job. I have to get out of here. And it's not just the...

It's funny how many women are answering for their SOs...and how many men haven't answered! I think my DH might have one suit, but it's still at his dad's (where he hasn't lived in years) so that's a clue to how often he doesn't wear it. For interviewing, he's done the jacket and dress pants, shirt and tie deal since his industry is more business casual. He also wears this stuff for weddings. I think he...

I walked out on my very first job after grad school. My boss was verbally abusive, tried to turn us against each other, threw stuff at us when we disagreed with her... Everyone in the department was taking antidepressants. When it got to the point that I couldn't sleep on Sunday night for worrying about work on Monday, I knew I couldn't do it any more. I have never regretted quitting.

I have one suit for interviews. It is charcoal and pretty basic. I also have a seersucker suit. I use it for weddings and such. Nice for summer type weather. I really never wear them though. They just hang in my closet year in and year out. So I have two.
I can't imagine having to wear a suit for work everyday. That must suck!

My comments:
The benefits/pay issue - In my professional life, I've worked for half non-profit employers (youth and family outreach through a Lutheran church, and a poverty law firm), and half for-profit employers (a company of community newspapers and a private school for disabled students). 100% of the time in my experience, the non-profit had better, more generous benefits and paid ...

Cubes don't bother me, but answering and making phone calls all day does. Of the jobs I've held since graduating college, the shortest term one by far was the intake paralegal job that consisted predominantly of being on the phone. Ick. I stayed seven months. Being a desk jockey just isn't my thing. I worked in decidedly more "outside the box" jobs both before and since, and am definitely ...

I agree that you did what your manager instructed you to do, and then got yelled at, and that sucks. She was upset that she messed up, and she took it out on you.
I figured I would have incurred the angry manager's wrath if I did say something
If something comes across my desk that looks incorrect, I speak up. I have NO idea what your work atmosphere and bosses are like, but I ...

I would probably shrug, compare it to changing diapers (i.e. not all stuff that's traditionally "for women" is sweetness and light), and make a comment to the effect that "I just do what's gotta get done."

Sounds like the ol' bait and switch tactic. What's the name of the company? If a company really wants you, they won't pressure you to quit your current job. They will simply tell you the benefits of the position, ask you about the earliest date you can start, offer you the job, then expect to fill out paperwork once you've accepted and moved on from your previous position.
Imo, it's weird ...

That is a REALLY strange rule. They can't force you to do that anyway. And I thought they did some strange things at my company!

Yes, my boss is a micromanager. For me its more an issue of trust, than him necessarily pushing his agenda. I've never been late on my assignments or not done work that needed to be done, so I'm finding his micromanagement to be uncalled for. He asks me multiple times a day "What are you working on?" It got to the point where I kept a tally on my desk for how many times he asked me that in one ...
